I've used milk thistle a time or 2 throughout the years after some intense and elongat d partying , but could never really tell a difference. Now, I'm seeing all these commercials for Liver Aid by Walgreens or CVS or something. I have recently been on a shite ton of meds, but am finally coming off. Should I do a liver cleanse or is it all BS? I

I used to believe in all that holistic "cleansing," but I remember JerseyTiger railing a time or 2 about how they were utter nonsense. Not just that he thought they didn't work, they truly pissed him off for some reason. It was bizarre.

Anyway, since then I've done a bit of research(sorry gals, you do not, in fact, have several pounds of years-old fecal sludge stuck to the inside of your colon that you can get rid of by a 30-day dose of Colon Cleanse). But I don't want to throw the baby out with the bath water. Do any of these things work? Specifically liver for me, but I'm open to any other science or anecdotes.

People will believe anything. Guess "detox" automatically makes them think they are doing something beneficial.

It's called staying properly hydrated so your organs can do their job properly.

You dont need a liver detox. Just drink a ton of water and let your liver and kidneys do the work. Those drugs will have a half life in your body, and some liver detox isnt going to change that.

I take something with milk thistle and another substance in it for my liver. It probably doesn't work, but it's better than my doctor's suggested alternative...quit drinking.

Total bs. Milk thistle definitely affects the liver. Find a teenager with mild acne and give him/her Milk thistle for 3 days. That teenager's face will absolutely get worse for a few days. That milk thistle caused the liver to quickly release a greater amt of toxins.

Milk thistle is also a small miracle supplement for damaged livers. For those of you who like to drink alcohol, you'd be wise to add milk thistle or something similar to your diet.

Just drink tart cherry and cranberry juice and modify your diet

Your liver does an incredible job of detox by itself generally

Now for a colon clean you can get an enema, colonic, or drink the go lyte formula that's used prior to a colonoscopy. I had one done last year, you may as well stay on the toilet seat if you drink it

Milk thistle's purpose is not to detox the liver, it's to give it a boost in function through heightening the organ's metabolism. It's good to take if you've been drinking heavily or you're taking some form of statin.

Any damage youre doing to your liver is going to be done quickly and taking something else that may put added stress on your liver is not going to help.

Dont waste your money. Try just drinking more water.

frick the Jenny McCarthy, he just upset bc she can't get over the fact her son has ASD. It's not a death sentence, it's a neural defect that varies greatly among people and there is no known cause.

Lemon Water.

I have liver problems from years of being an alcoholic. The internet said this is a great natural detox. Seems to make me feel better, idk.

It's because you're drinking more water. Something 99% of people need to do.

This is horsesh*t. Poster obviously knows nothing about biology or physiology.

Your liver and kidneys detox you. Anybody who says different is trying to sell you something.

Cleanse your liver of what? Your liver "cleanses" you. It also metabolizes drugs. The cells don't fill up with poison. They can fill with fat but you lose weight and stop drinking to reduce that issue.

Some research has shown the Milk Thistle does protect against alcohol induced liver damage. The Silymarin from milk thistle is what you want, not Silibinin which, in one study, promoted the growth of cancer cells in combo with alcohol in an animal study.
