Serious question. Simply could not save marriage of 36 years; I tried, it's over. Anyway, there are no children or property involved. We've had separate residences (married in Louisiana; I live here, she lives in Texas) the last five years. Totally uncontested, amicable situation. What is the quickest and easiest way for us to get a divorce in this type of situation? (I guess I could fart around online for info but I was hoping one of my rant podnahs had been through this or knew what to do.) Don't want or need lawyers to be involved. Thanks for the help.

Why bother unless one of you wants to remarry? Sounds like it's already done dw facto.

No children at all or your children are all grown up and on their own (and don't factor into equation)?

I really don't want to spend the rest of my life alone. Understandable, no?

Only cost me like $150 ($300 split 2 ways), didn't need lawyers. Just sign the papers saying you've settled all property ownership on your own and neither are contesting the divorce.

Piece of cake.

Ex Wife and I agreed to terms, filed and went before a judge. No attorneys, no major expenses.

Pretty easy. Get a mediator and then file for divorce.

I did my own, following the guide on the EBR family court website. It cost about $350, and it was a pain to figure out.

Didn't have to go in front of a judge, since it was uncontested.

Dude....live separate and apart for 180 days. After that, file 103 petition for divorce. Get spouse to waive service....wait 15 days, file preliminary default. 3 days later, go to court and confirm it. Bring a witness who can say you have lived apart for 180 days without reconciling. Voila.....divorce granted. (You have to know what to plead and what to say, but it's pretty dang simple. If you have a lawyer buddy, get him to give you a form.

Contesting it would've required effort on his part. It wasn't happening. Divorce someone super lazy, and it's a piece of cake!

More years than I've been alive. That's a hell of an effort and I'd say you put in your time. Unfortunately having a good lawyer involved may be quicker, to handle the fine print And Let it be just overall someone else's headache.

If not spiteful, hateful split up with lots of assets involved it may not be contested and etc which causes a lot of drawn out process and $$$
