Dishwasher not heating water or drying dishes

I tried slapping her twice and the damn thing still won't do its job.
I'm thinking about running a volt meter on the heating element to test for continuity. Should be an easy fix but wasn't sure if I really understand dishwashers correctly. The heating element does all of the heating for both the water and the drying, right?
The water heater in this house is tankless and it takes forever for the kitchen sink to heat up. Wasn't sure if that might have something to do with it.

That would be a good idea.

Rip out the old dishwasher and get yourself a new one.

Long story but new landlord is a shite head and won't fix it. It was broken when we moved in.
I can justify spending $50 on a new heating element to replace a broken one but I'm not buying that a-hole a new dishwasher.

Didn't know you were renting.
Put in a new one and use it, save the old one and then reinstall the broken one before you leave?

what does the lease say? If it comes furnished it should be on them to buy/fix a dishwasher

Alabama isn't the best for tenants. If he doesn't fix it, I can just move out. Have had too much happen to my family over the past year to yank them out of a house after one month.

It sounds like it's pulling too much water at once. When a dishwasher has a water overload it won't heat enough or get the dishes dry enough
There's a little knob on a hose that connects your water to the dishwasher, make sure you turn it to the right to decrease the water flow. Run it through a few heavy duty extra rinse cycles to get the excess water out and it'll be good as new!

How else are you supposed to fix a dishwasher that floods every time you crank it?

quote:Wouldn't have an impact on the dishwasher since they have their own heating elements, but check to see if the recirculating pump is turned on in the water heater.
The water heater in this house is tankless and it takes forever for the kitchen sink to heat up. Wasn't sure if that might have something to do with it.
Our contractor neglected to turn this on when they finished our house, and it took a good 5+ minutes to get even warm water to the kitchen sink. Plumber said that modern piping has the kitchen the greatest distance from the water heater, so it takes longer to push the cold water out.
Turn on the recirculating pump and the "loop" stays hot all the time; only cold water you have to push is what is in the pipe connecting the loop to the faucet.
