I know that fair and carnival rides can be sketchy, but this is the biggest fair in the state and obviously goes through an inspection. Today was the first day of the fair. If it was just one person, I could see an operator error, but with multiple people it had to be an issue with the rise itself. Just a terrible and terrifying event.

Columbus Division of Fire says one person is dead and five critically injured after a ride malfunctioned at the Ohio State Fair.
Here is video of the accident. It doesn't show the impact, but it shows them launched from the ride.

The only other one I can remember was a coaster stuck upside down and person for loose and fell.

I don't recall anything is this magnitude though.

I would name my roller coasters in Roller Coaster Tycoon, 'Yo momma' and build them deadly..then it would say...'33 people died on Yo Momma.' I was like 13..I'm a mortician now.

Superstructure Failure, broke welds or something. Rides are typically very safe.

ETA; Watching it over a few times it sounds like it hits something before it makes the up swing.

I operate a bunch of differant kind of rides at the county and state fare and ain't never had this kind of bad thing happen. Most of us are very professional and good at our job and don't do drugs. Maybe you can learn to respect us a little more and stop running your mouth.

I don't understand how those kinds of rides are allowed at fairs. Seems way too dangerous.

I knew I shouldn't have watched that. Not the graphic aspect of it, but I'm probably going to stick to corn dogs and turkey legs this year at the fair

And this is one of the situations where lawsuits are valid and understandable, if not necessary.

I just wonder what the inspection revealed. If this happened well after the fair started, then I would imagine the inspection wouldn't have caught an issue. But on the first day, it makes me wonder if it wasn't as thorough as required or even done at all.
