Last week, two hackers unleashed an automated scanning tool on the the internet's deepest layers, known as the Dark Web. This digital underworld is accessible only through the Tor Network and trafficked largely by hackers and criminals looking to avoid the gaze of law enforcement. Hackers Alejandro Caceres and Amanda Towler set their website vulnerability scanning tool, PunkSPIDER, loose on the Dark Web in an effort to improve the semi-anonymizing network's security but made a surprising discovery: the Dark Web may not be nearly as large as experts estimate.

I would like to purchase a few items off that market.

Not like human trafficking or a kidney or anything like that but something just to say I have done so

How big did they think it was? There can only be so many sites dealing in a unique form of criminal activity before it gets redundant. Not to mention I hope demand isn't THAT high for the stuff that goes on there.

Of course the "this world is going to hell" people think half the world is a consumer of deep web services.

Seems like these guys were scanning a particular subset of the dark / deep web: the part that is intended to be found by anyone who is interested... once those people log in with Tor or similar. It isn't really that surprising that they found this part to be small. While there are some messed up people out there, I don't think there's that many where you'd find an enormous underground, so to speak.

The majority of deep web content is corporate databases, libraries, etc. that aren't pervy in the least. They are "dark" from public searching because they weren't created to provide information to the public and most have restricted access. Note: this doesn't mean they have dangerous or classified info either. They're often just internal resources and data sets for corporate use, including research and archiving. I doubt that PunkSPIDER was able to glean anything relevant from these type sites, though they comprise a huge part of the dark web.

I heard that there is a tape of Kate Upton and Taylor Swift banging Putin with an American flag strap-on somewhere on the deep web.
