quote:

A woman who was late getting back to her cruise ship fell to her knees, pleading in vain as it pulled away bound for New York with her three children on board. Her husband went to look for her when she didn’t make it back in time. He came racing back in a vehicle resembling a golf cart as the ship set sail. His wife tumbled out of the racing trolley and in desperation ran down the dock, imploring, wracked with emotion. At last, she knelt and raised her arms above her head, beseechingly, before she collapsed, defeated. The cruise line said the departure time was well-known, and the ship took the unprecedented measure of waiting for a half hour before sailing. They added that the children were with their uncle and were never unattended. Cruise ships must abide by tight schedules, they explained. It is the responsibility of the passengers to make it back on time.

Shitty situation but you know what time you're supposed to be back.

They waited an extra half hour and the kids were with the uncle. That's her fault for being a moron. I think I saw on the travel channel something like every hour the cruise ship has to wait is an extra 10 grand in fuel they have to burn because they have to go faster to make up the time.

ETA: The only possible scenario I could think of in which I would feel bad for the mother is sometimes the ship's time stays with the departure port and doesn't change when the boat changes time zones. It's possible that when she was asking around what time it was she was getting local time instead of ship's time. Also, her phone may have been off because she was international. But this is literally the only perfect storm of shite where I would feel bad for her.

I feel like that's not particularly relevant to this situation, but hey I could be wrong.

The cruise ship will wait around if you are late on an excursion you booked through them. Book without them and you're screwed.

How old are her kids that she left them at a port in an unknown place? And if they're old enough to be alone/unattended at port, what was she so distraught over?

I kind of get it, but it's not like the cruise ship didn't give her any leeway. 30 minutes is a long time when you have a schedule to keep.

The kids were safe with a relative and the POS parents already held up the ship 30 minutes, this is a non-story

I'd like to know where the Mom went. Also, are they the only people on the planet without cellphones?

frick them. She should have gotten back and the husband shouldn't have left his children, uncle or not.

Not the cruise ship's fault these people were selfish and irresponsible and expected a cruise ship full of people go wait on them.
