Anyone have any good stories/experiences with crowdfunding?

I did one for a show that Zane Lamprey was making. Story was that he couldn't get picked up by a network so he was going to make a show with crowd sourced money. So he got all the money he needed, made the show, then it got picked up by a network. So He made the show for free, and then made his network money with no cost. So for $10, my return was to be able to stream the episodes before they hit the small screen.

I spent more on a movie being made by Penn Jillette. So far I've gotten a t-shirt, and a bunch of emails about how they are trying to sell the movie to studios. I'm supposed to have my name in the credits though!

Surely people have better stories than I do.

I'm a little surprised to see Penn Jillette doing a kickstarter.

I gave to a friends sister in law because she had cancer... I was fine with that experience.

I gave $100 to a guy I went to high school with that has some degenerative bone disease that caused him to have both hips replaced at the same time.

It just doesn't seem up his alley to be honest, I wasn't doubting it's really happening ha.

Gotcha, just showing what it was. The fundraising did have a bunch of interesting "levels" of donation. All the way up to being in the movie, or screening the movie with Penn in his house.

DryTunes

I have one of these. Was a really neat idea, American made (in Metry!) and it works really well. I even got it wet on the inside due to not closing the latches all the way and sent it back to them and they fixed it for $25.

I browse through Kickstarter every now and then, but mostly in the tech section. There are some pretty cool ideas out there but most are looking for a bit more than I'm willing to shell out to get the product.
