Are awesome. Champs. Love 'em.

Maybe I would have a different opinion of crepe myrtles if the ones I inheretied from previous owners were 20' tall, had tightly bunched limbs, and had been cared for - I could see essentially having a fence of them if they looked like that, but the ones I have had were always basically big spindly-limbed things more like bushes than trees and looked like crap and took up a ton of lateral yard-space, much like the OP has. I've tried pruning them back, but then they look even more junky until they grow again, and I don't want the maintenance. They're my enemies.

I noticed that as well. I had two monster pines removed that were that close to my house. I watched those suckers sway from side to side during Gustav, and my heart would skip a beat during each wind gust.

Which bushes?

Thanks for advice, I appreciate it. I don't have a great eye for this stuff.

Yeah I think the species matters a bunch.. the CMs in my yard are all 10-15ft tall and I maintain them and when spring hits they really look nice..

Then in the winter all the leaves are gone I can load them up with Christmas lights.

Take out the pine tree next to house. ( Good call on that..thats a disaster waiting to happen..
over the past decade with the hurricanes and tornado outbreaks on the north shore into MS, the pine belt areas around here, I wouldn't have any pine trees on a property within 25 yards of a structure. I've seen where 50 pines on a single lot have all snapped off about 1/3rd from the top and fall like skewers to the ground. Being perfect to go through a roof in a moderate size storm.

You can have the canopy of the oak raised or you can do it. Grass will then grow.

I have a large magnolia also. So the yard wouldn't be empty

As you can see, the oak isn't a pretty tree. I just hate to remove an oak.

Man that's some really random arse tree planting in your yard..

looking at it from this view, if it were me i'd probably remove all but the Magnolia.. and maybe plant something closer to the driveway that with grow tall enough to shade but not over take the yard.

It really is. It's a mystery. Again, the house is almost 70 years old, but I don't get it.

The magnolia isn't perfect, my neighbor has one that has limbs all the way to the ground. Mine was obviously cut, so now...its empty beneath it...but I'm not getting rid of it.

If I'm taking out that pine, might as well take out the pecan as well, right?

Why was the garage roof built so much higher than the rest of the house? Weird...

I added the garage. I have a FROG, the original portion of the house doesn't have an upstairs.

They will eventually grow into each other. Take them all out, or every other one out.

Agree. There's more stuff to the left, but I don't mine those as much as it's a buffer from the adjacent property. But I don't disagree. May be able to get a better deal if I take all those out in one swoop.

A lot of companies will not remove the Oak anyway.

Your yard will never grow grass with oaks and all that shade. I've been through this at two different houses.

Oaks literally suck the life out of your yard.
