My mother had a good one for times when a spanking just wasn't enough. When she said "I'll yank a knot in your tail!" we knew things were getting serious.

That little woman could have done it, too, tail or no tail. Damn, she could get mean.

My mother would sometimes say, "I'll skin you alive", as a verbal cue. At the time, I never really thought about what it meant in the literal sense. I just knew it meant I'd better stop whatever I was doing at the time. She was a very small woman and probably didn't weigh 100 lbs., and a very kind person...very kind and caring. Thinking back, it makes me laugh. She knew what it took to deal with my young butt.

But that's not what you inferred with your post. You said I was a " sick frick" because I suggested kids bruise. You are the perfect example of the differing methods of parenting. You appear to be the type who would nurture to a fault. My father was more patriarchal than paternal. Justice was swift and undeniable. But I love him with all my heart to this dAy and worship the ground he walks on. Guess I responded to discipline more than reasoning.

To each his own. Whatever my father did, it worked for me.

I'm the youngest of 6, 5 of us being boys. My momma weighs 95 pounds soaking wet, and can *still* cause her kids to straighten the hell out in a hurry, with no more than pointing a wooden spoon at us and telling us to simmer down.

Being the youngest, I spent a lot of time with my oldest brother, including tagging along when he went to the Marine Corps recruiter. They asked him if he was afraid of anything, and he said 'Just my Momma'. They said 'That'll do' and signed him up.

I used to tell my little one that chupacabra would get him.

Also have threatened with public school, the big plastic soup spoon, soap, etc.

My favorite is to make one of them the slave to whoever that one is being mean to. For one hour.
