It seems that more and more people are dressing up in Halloween costumes for Mardi Gras parades. I know the festivity has always brought out face paint, funky hats and yellow, green and purple attire, but I am seeing a real influx of people going all out costumes that have no relevance to the holiday.

I haven't been to a Mardi Gras in a few years, but has this been a thing lately, or is it just this year?

It looks more like the Northeasterners that go to Tulane bring out their rave apparel every year now

When I was younger, we put more emphasis on picking a Mardi Gras costume than we did our Halloween costume. You don't see costumed people nearly as much IMO.

Does my costume fall under that category?

Growing up we dressed up every year...late 70's through 80's. I was surprised to see it seem to fade away.
