LMAO! You buy a grand of throws to ride in a 6+ mile NOLA parade route you're gonna be waving at a lot of MF'ers on the route.

Orion in BR is just over 1.5 mile route and spending $1K on throws is not hard to do at all. Especially if you want to throw more than beads. Any specialty stuff is gonna spike your throw costs.

Having said that, I know a member of Orpheus. They are a bit of a bargain right now in that they are just over $1,000 for dues. Endymion is twice that per two members I know (they may pay extra to their float to do parties, specialty throws for their float, etc as a part of that). Again though, a G for beads is gonna leave you empty handed real quick in Endymion.

Yeah they must be on a specialty float dues are only 975 for endymion after the first year.

And no if you do the shopping right and hustle beads 1K+ on throws is easy.

I throw about 16-18 gross, and I am throwing constantly the whole route.

Of course you could take the easy way out and shell out 3K+ on everything specialty, and then chunk bags of beads at naseum (something the krewe warns against doing, especially if your not paying attention to who you are throwing too)

After paying dues, it's pretty much how expensive you want to make it on yourself. No matter what you throw, unless it's something that can be consumed immediately such as a Moon Pie or something that can be put in the bank ie money, the crowd is never satisfied.

I recall that from riding a few years ago in Endymion. Unless it was something light up or maybe a specialty throw, people didn't give a shite. Literally let it drop through their hands. Of course that may be due to the volume Endymion throws, but I can remember long pearls were essentially throw aways for most folks.

This is key. I ride Endymion and there are guys on my float with half as many items that spend 2-3 times as much as I do. You can easily be in the 3k range if you buy a bunch of LED specialty throws directly from the Krewe. I usually buy an assortment from them and come out around 6-$700.

I also buy my beads cheap instead of going to one of the Mardi Gras Stores. I rode yesterday with about 24 gross of long assorted and I paid <$250.

A few guys on our float place a big order for cheap Led stuff. I want to say it came out to about $350 each.

All in I spent about $1300 on dues and another 1300 or so on throws.

I rode for 8 years in Hercules in Houma. 6 mile ride, I rode with 100 gross 33" beads, 50 Dz 48", and 300 footballs. I would get all that for under $600.

No offense but I have seen bead costs through my Krewe, Endymion, Plush Appeal, BBD, and shopped online and went so far as to go Alibaba. If you get 24 sacks at that price you are throwing total shite beads.

I'll repeat, there is no offense intended with me saying that...and I'm sure you'll disagree...and what's wrong with blinkys, LED's and specialties? It's what people want. Glass beads made by hand and wooden doubloons evolved as throws. They'd get dropped now just like shitty throws get dropped now. You throw what the crowds want.

Again though good info on the dues...I would love to talk beads with you though...I find your figures hard to square with reality unless you're throwing K-Mart-esque shite.

Endymion dues are $975. That includes your position on the float, 2 tickets to the coronation ball (mini extravaganza for members only) and 2 tickets to the extravaganza.
*$450 is what it cost for a non member couple (tickets are sold in pairs) to just enter the extravaganza. That doesn't include tux/dress, booze, food, cab fare, etc.
*There is also a $300 initiation fee your first year.

I spend around $1500-$1800 each year. Mostly on LED material we get straight from China.
I know others who do spend an upwards of 4K on throws. I never understood it, but there are plenty with money like that.

If you never rode in Endymion, then you wouldn't understand the worth in every penny.
Plus the extravaganza and coronation balls are insanely fun and full of beautiful women.
There really isn't a parade that compares top to bottom.
*Family is really big in Bacchus, so I've been a Paige and member for 5years prior to joining Endymion (10 years) so I have a good comparison on the two bigger Krewes.
