Almost as sad as the demise of the mall itself is the demise of the businesses on the outskirts of the mall. All of the restaurants are closed. I think there used to be a Bennigans, maybe a Black Eyed Pea, a Chinese place, a Chi-Chi's? and a couple of other things. Now there is nothing.

That's what happens when the demand for those dies down with the market disappearing for those in that part of town.

Jeans West, 5-7-9, Bakers Shoes, The Wild Pair. Orange Julius was nice.

Bennigan's was a frightening place before it closed.

I don't touch the mall. Either of them.

The only reason I would go there would be to by tennis shoes and I just do that online.

Oh yeah. And I would go to play Initail D in the game store back before the machine go all junked up.

Eta: Bennigans sucked. Worst service ever.

Mall of LA was one of the last malls ever built in this country. It was a dumb 80's era idea, that has just died a slow death.

Do you truly believe that it was a dumb idea? That it is dying a slow death? Would you mind showing me your evidence? The MallofLa and it's outer area has grown and continues to grow each year. It is the center of discussion of taxes between a city and a potential city. It has been the BR area's #1 retail area since 1996.

I find it funny that it's one long cycle. Does anyone remember that Bon Marche was an open air strip center before they closed it in and made it a mall? We went from strip centers to malls, and now back to strip centers again over the course of 40 years.

I went there the other day around noon and had no problem finding a parking spot, and was quite different from when I worked there in the 1980's where I'd have to drive around for 20 minutes to find a parking spot. It's had to believe that at one time traffic for that mall used to back up past I-12.
