Did you do it for your kid? Have you had to use it? Would you do it again if you have another child?

Scam. Waste of money. Lots of people do it - an extremely small amount of people ever use it. The companies selling the service purposefully market at the heart strings of new and young parents.

Did do it. Haven't had to use it and pray that I never will. Think of it like an insurance policy. You pay more in car insurance in a year than you will for cord blood.

And if you don't use it, you can donate it to someone who really needs it.

It's dumb not to do it.

We were told that it doesn't matter if it is your baby's stem cells or someone else's. We did donate ours though.

If you can afford it you absolutely should do it.

Did not do it for my first kid. She later suffered brain damage and any hope for her lies with stem cell research and cord blood would be nice to have bc most stem cell studies are using cord blood.

Did it for the second kid.

I share this opinion

I am very surprised to hear how many people did do it in this thread

Not me. Doctor offices push it because they receive a nice "fee" for signing people up.

Makes sense.

My ob nor my pediatrician have ever mentioned a word to me about it. I read about it on the Internet beforehand but that was the only I had heard.

basically it's cord blood (as in ambilical cord) that is collected and stored when the baby is born. supposed to be useful for some future health problems the child may have, has something to do with stem cells. Our OB highly recommended. yeah the true benefit may not be known but id rather pay $1200 and have it just in case.

Did it. Three kids. Didn't think twice about it.

Hope I never have to use it

I believe the $1200 is for the service and initial collection. then I believe it's like $150 a year to store.

if you're expecting soon set it up ASAP as you will have to call right when your wife goes into labor so they can collect at birth.
