I click on people's profile when they post something either interesting or entertaining. Read the about and that was all listed. Has to be him. I doubt Raytheon is recruiting southern graduates at a very high rate

Very true. I tell people it's not about how much you make its about how much you spend.

One other thing I'd recommend to the OP is to consider getting your red card so you can get some extra hours in working on fire details. You will be in prime territory for that.

Life motto. It baffles me to see assholes in this thread call me out on being poor or having a shitty job. Yet, they're busy trolling a message board and insisting I'm doing life wrong bc I'm not making a ton of money.

I don't even like to think I have a job. I get paid to do what I love, my hobby. Plus I am a federal employee of the United States. They can keep their office cubicle. I get to see moose, bighorn sheep, bear, mountain goat, all in their element. Not in a zoo.

I work in one of the only places in the world that has a triple divide. The very first international peace park. The crown of the continent.

Good luck seeing that in Louisiana.

And to be quite frank, I'll probably stop posting here anyway bc I'm sick of seeing these old geezers make fun of what they wish they had.

Any way to get you my email address without posting on OTL? Will be just outside of Whitefish in 4 weeks for first time - looking for recs especially related to Glacier National Park

Does this site have messaging? I have no idea... the only email I use right now is about to go kaput bc it's my UGA email from when I was in college. They recently sent me an alert saying the acct would be deleted in July. I can give you an alternate email once I make one.

I can't use my government email.

Only thing that sucks is you work for the NPS.

Within DOI they have an interesting reputation to say the least...

But I know that's not representative of the whole service

(I'm permanent FWS within Alaska btw)

Awesome

Yea, we are a different bunch but I have no complaints. I had offers with USFS in the Flathead National Forest in spotted Bear but the money is better in NPS right now.

How is the USFS?

FS is OK, especially if you can get a gig in SE Alaska in Tongass (Rogers neck of the woods) or a gig in Chugach National Forest in South Central AK

Congrats on your GS-4 seasonal position, a lot of Parkies started out doing the "seasonal shuffle."
Let me help you out...

I can't work more than that many hours in a seasonal position with the DOI in a single year.
This is wrong, especially if this is your first appointment (which I strongly suspect). DOI will allow training hours. I don't know how many hours the policy currently permits, but ask your supervisor or your HR contact.
Also, you are allowed another seasonal position (it might have to be at a different unit) in the same calendar and/or fiscal year.

Talk to your manager about going through NPS Fundamentals at the end of your season.

Don't waste your time.
Seasonal & Term employees are not eligible for NPS Fundamentals.

I make twice the minimum wage. It's not a lot but it pays the bills and I don't have to spend a ton of money to see some beautiful places that I live nearby. It's def a payoff.

As of now it's 1039. Unless you're talking about training hours then I have no clue.

Sorry if my previous post was unclear.
There is an allowance for training hours if this is your first appointment. That allowance of training hours should not be counted toward your 1039 limit.
Talk to your supervisor and/or HR contact for more information.
