Alright guys I have a question. I'm in the process of building a home on a river and need some input. The house is on column stilts which are concrete cinder blocks that will not be painted or stained. The hardie board siding is an iron gray with white trimmings. We have a truss on our porch looking towards the river that will be a dark stained wood as well as our double doors coming onto the porch. We are trying to decide whether to stain the porch railing and stairs a dark wood the same as all the others I listed or paint it white. It is a picket fence type porch railing. Any help would be great

Not too much sun. We think the white will look better but a lot more cleaning

I find that paint holds up much better than stain. Cleaning should be pretty easy with a sprayer

Just don't make a mistake by not putting a prime coat before painting with your primary color.
Just did my screen porch floor grey.

Stain is a pain and you will have to keep putting protectant on it.

The color used for the bead board ceiling on porches of many southern homes is called Haint Blue--google it and read about the history of why this was done--pretty interesting.

Subtle brag thread is subtle. Congrats on your river front home.
