Just to ponder
DoTA2 - The International
The DoTA2 Grand Finals prize pool was ~$25mil USD, with first place winning $10.8mil.
The DoTA2 GF is a 2 week tourney, 1 week broadcasted, 1 week live event that sells out the Seattle Key Arena every year.
I cant remember who but someone who owns a professional sports team bought a Esports team to get into the market. The big name clubs have Esports teams in multiple games, with Fnatic and Liquid coming right to mind.
Its an entertainment industry, just like the NFL in that regard, as long as the money is flowing people will flock to it.

E-sports are legit, but this is a stupid idea. Most of the best players are below college age. Also, the most popular e-sports are team competitions. Are the colleges going to give scholarships to the whole team?

Better than wasting scholarships on girls basketball
Title IX will step in and force universities to offer 5 scholarships in women bikini waxing and tanning for every 5 men's video gaming schollies.

I love playing games and for the life of me can't understand how esports is so popular, but I won't deny it has gotten huge.
I get the feeling that esports will ride the same bubble Hold 'Em poker did.

texas holdem is too hard to follow.
e sports isn't going anywhere.
the 76ers own an e sports team. it's actually a sweet gig they get to practice in and use all the teams facitliites with the rest of the players

As opposed to some of these video games?

The drug testing ramifications would be a shite show
That was my first thought.

I know the DoTA2 tourney scene already has some that are drug testing for Adderall (sp?)

Somebody explain the basics to me.
Are all video games (like Ms. Pac Man) potentially an e-sport or do they make special games for competition?
