Considering my initial point about a lack of privacy, the exclusion of specific personal information represents a major difference--my entire initial point centered on privacy. The anonymity of message boards sets them apart.

I didn't say it's not social media. Just that it's not so self serving

Here's the difference: I don't know a damn thing about you by clicking on your wildtigercat93 profile page.
But would you willingly link your FB page?

I didn't think the discussion was the definition of social media but rather how it's used or abused

No. This site and message boards are a hell of a lot different than FM MySpace, Twitter.... Come on...
Bottom line, the whole "who's better" thing doesn't matter.
I routinely tell guys I work with that are my age a couple of things.
1)Unless you're curing cancer, you are COMPLETELY replaceable. If you get in a car accident tomorrow and die, people will mourn you at work. And, 3 months from then, the place will operate as if you NEVER worked there.
This goes to the reality that
2)You're gonna get replaced by that young guy eventually. And, nope, the world won't come to an end when he takes your spot. He'll make mistakes that you never made......and.....he'll get shite right that gave you tons of grief. The world will grind on and, in 20 years, he's gonna think the new 25 year olds won't be able to replace him. And, he'll be wrong too.

You can be anonymous on Facebook and twitter the same as you can here if you want to and you can be just as open about who you are on here as you can on facebook

The fact that we are actively discussing this and sharing information is what makes this social media, not the personal information it contains

Being anonymous on FB requires either all of the privacy settings or an alias.
Essentially everyone on here is anonymous unless they're a complete attention whore.

Honestly, if there is one thing I envy about millennials it's the fact that they'll typically work MULTIPLE jobs in their lifetimes. Sure, that's probably going to be a lot more stressful than the life I had. But, I ain't gonna lie, I'd like to have some years back. I'd like to have taken more risks. I envy these folks who have taken some risk, even if it may have been economically forced upon them, than I did.

Then you're intentionally being dense by ignoring the difference between message boards and actual social media.

I'm saying it is a form of social media. They have their differences but they are the same species

No I'm 21, I just don't contradict myself by calling out people about using social media while I'm using a form of social media

I can thank your generation for teaching me valuable lessons. Many millennials will learn from your greedy generation's mistakes.
