I wonder if we can get this deployed on a city-wide basis?
Businesses using music to deter crime

The classical music blaring from speakers mounted on the light posts in a Rainier Beach parking lot keeps Richelle Reason walking. She never stops to hear the next song in the storefront symphony.

That’s exactly the point.
In the past, crowds of up to 25 people would hang out in the lot, which became the site of drug dealing, fights and police responses, according to Patrick Senn, store director at Saar’s Market Place.
quote:
The market started using classical music about three years ago to repel loiterers and vandals from their buildings. Senn said the method appears to be working. Since he began playing the music, Senn said he hasn’t called police to the lot as much

And hide your cash in your violin case.

When I waited tables in college at a national chain bar/grill and the GM didn't like the crowd, he would unplug the jukebox, then plug it in an load it up with country music.

I prefer hiding it under a stack of job applications

This reminded me when I was younger and Daquiri Cafe across the river was big in Sundays
They would switch the music to all country when the African American community started coming until after a few weeks they were gone then switch back
Some racist stuff there but I guess not really anything can be done about it

Businesses and transportation systems use classical, opera and country music as a crime-fighting tool around the globe.

The McDonald’s on the corner of Third Avenue and Pine Street played country music to keep loiterers from getting too comfy

Knew a few bars if the crowd wasn't what they wanted, they would play country music...

Restaurants and retail have been playing country, classical, oldies, and soft rock to encourage/discourage certain types of clientele for a long time.
Even fast food places like Sonic do this. Entire malls pipe in the kind of music that their clientele likes.

Not racist. No one made them stay away.

Not necessarily racist....some entertainment businesses try to discourage old people like this too. Depends on what they are aiming for. With the kind of music the local outdoor mall plays, they seem to be discouraging everyone that isn't female yuppie larvae.

That's not racist, it's good business.
Black people don't buy drinks and tip like white folk.
