Chinese foreign exchange student praises America, has China get pissy at her

"Speaking at the University of Maryland, Yang Shuping drew a parallel between air pollution in China and the country's restrictions on free speech.
Angry Chinese social media users accused her of denigrating her homeland and told her to stay in the US.
But the university backed her, saying it was vital to hear different views.
Ms Yang - who was selected by the university to speak - contrasted wearing a face mask against pollution with the "sweet and fresh" air in the US."
I guess Maryland doesn't have taco Tuesday.
Wish she didn't apologize but getting that much notoriety must be unpleasant.

The Chinese people know what she's saying is true. They need their Boomers to die out over there, and then I feel pretty confident they will be a full fledged democracy. I'm thinking 2035-2040 is when China will finally be fully westernized in the way South Korea and Japan have. Millennials over there love American culture, and they seek to emulate our way of life.
Mao just really fricked that country up. It's infuriating going to Taiwan and realize that this is what China would be today if Mao never came to power.

I have enjoyed some of her movies. While I am unaware of her fandom of Obama or Trump, she is obviously a fan of Bush.

Only if she tries to start a protest. You can mostly speak your mind over there these days, but they'll mow you down if you protest in mass numbers or try to start an uprising.

I was pretty good friends with a Chinese exchange student in high school. I think his dad worked for the government, but I am not positive. He didn't seem to dislike China, but I think he really liked being over here.
