When I logged on to Facebook this morning there was an article about someone I grew up with being arrested for stolen vehicle, drug paraphernalia, stolen property, burglary tools, and methamphetamine. I also found out he had been arrested for a burglary a month ago. I lost touch with him basically after junior high. I knew that he had joined the Army after high school and thought he was doing well. Anybody have similar stories of childhood friends that chose a life of crime?

One of my childhood best friends, my neighbor who I spent many hours riding bikes and playing video games with, executed his girlfriend and dumped her in a ditch

He is currently rotting away in prison for life

Had a friend murder someone. Didn't make a lifestyle out of it or anything, but moment of crime at least. Sad and unfortunate.

My boy Red went through a similar thing growing up. He came from a home with a "traditional" family and as such had a conformist upbringing. One day he checked out a library book and never returned it.. Last I saw of ole Red, it's a damn shame good boys can go bad like that.

Yea, I'm sure everyone knows somebody that has fallen on hard times. Not sure anyone "chooses" to go that way but some do.

I get so pissed when I hear about my buddies doing stupid shite. most of them are selling drugs.

I have at least 2 friends that have gotten for intent to distribute massive amounts of drugs. both of them came from well off families and thought it was cool to be the plug. blows my fricking mind.

I have a friend that didn't start doing drugs until he was right around 40 and had a kid. He's addicted to pain pills and regularly does cocaine as well. He had a good head on his shoulders when he was younger up to about 35 I'd say. He started his own business, but now that thing has been run into the ground. He's at least $100K in debt, and last I heard it was at least double that due to the failed business. The worst thing is now he is into taking advantage of others, such as trying to steal from his mom when she was on her death bed (literally as she was dying in the hospital, he was trying to charge thousands of dollars from her credit card to his business). It amazes me that someone waits that long to fall apart. Hopefully he can find a way to get help.

I went to boarding school with the Bin Ladens. Our families vacationed together on the Maine coast one summer also.

A few people who OD'd. The only serious criminal was a guy who embezzled a ton of money from the professional organization he was president of.

OTOH there was one kid who was a straight up hoodlum I was sure would be dead or put away by now. I googled him a while back and he's straightened up, working as a minor league baseball scout.

I had a good friend who was big into BMX bikes, his two pet cats, Smurfs and Star Wars. He grew up to be a white supremacist skinhead who shot a black guy in a road rage incident. Black dude was paralyzed and the kid went to prison for life.

There was zero hate in this kid through 4th grade. Such a terrible turn.

I played sports against this guy and hung around him in high school/college a decent bit. We were friendly but he has super paranoid all the time. I thought it was the weed but turned out to be bipolar or something

He left college and moved back home. He ended up killing his mother with a knife. Super sad story.

What is ridiculous is that he is out and barely did any time.

Buddy of mine is doing 25 years in Angola. I seen it coming for him so I had to leave the group before I got caught up with the Tom foolery.

There was a guy I knew of more than knew personally who was arrested for a string of burglaries and home invasions several months ago. I think he was a heroin addict. Broke into a cop's house and stole a bunch of guns I think. Broke into another house while people were home and tied them up. Pretty sure it's going to be his third conviction, so he's probably never getting out of jail.

I might have some details fuzzy. There are probably news articles out there somewhere. I just heard it through the grapevine.

He is the older brother of this girl who was an acquaintance and would have pretty wild parties at her house because her mom didn't give a frick.

I don't know about anyone I had gone to school with because I only keep in touch with a couple of people from there, and they're okay. I've had some co-workers do some stupid shite that got them fired and/or in trouble with the law.

I can tell you one thing that make me absolutely decided to never go that route. My civics teacher in 10th grade took all of his classes on field trips to Hunt Correctional and LCIW. Had prisoners talk to us, walked the cell blocks, the whole nine yards. Scared the living bejeezus out of us! In retrospect it was a worthwhile trip that left an impression on us, and should be something all high school kids should do!
