Not to highjack the thread...but several years ago, I had $100 "cash back" added to my credit card at one of our large "members club stores"....it was on a very large purchase and I guess the clerk thought it wouldn't be caught and pocket the cash and still balance at the end of the day. Don't know what happened to the clerk but I got management involved before leaving the check out line!

Had a local Japanese restaurant/waitress do this to me after I scribbled out the initial tip due to shitty service. Went out of business shortly after, so I never did follow it up.

I usually leave cash tips and always write ON TABLE (large)on the tip line and then total the CC tab.
