The canteen really is about on par with buying underwear at a garage sale.

Like I said, only people who do this often will think that. It's by garage sale/flea market standards. If you look around high and low, you can find things absurdly cheap. Pennies on the dollar. I collect obsolete electronics and video games, I go to garage sales, flea markets fairly often. And I buy anything that I want and is a steal. It wouldn't have surprised me one bit if you got it all for under $100. That would've been my estimate if you were a IRL friend of mine who showed me this haul.

Not being a douche, just explaining. Obviously you're a regular person who still got a good deal, so it's all good.

Oh, I know that you can find much better deals. But when the lady won't budge on her price, I'm left with the option of getting a $175 profit on the kayak (if I sell it) or nothing. Would you have left it?

In all honesty, I only bought the canteen because i really liked the cool old man selling it and wanted to be nice. It was a buck and I don't think I'll use it

I'm not dying to own a kayak. I would've added it to the list and found the same one dirt cheap elsewhere. But if I was dying to own one, maybe. Yes, I have made impulse purchases and just said frick it. I don't really care about resell prices, I'm a collector and a pack-rat. It doesn't matter what I would do, I'm a weirdo, Ok?

Oh shite, you actually collect the stuff, not sell it. Yeah I'm definitely not trying to do that

The hardcore re-sellers - pawn shop/used electronics store owners, ebay superstars are the assholes. I'm sort-of friends with a few of them, I'll go over and talk shop and occasionally buy things, but I secretly hate them. They're the ones who raid the garage sales every weekend at 6am and get all the good stuff. They make it shittier for both you and me.
