Have any of you ever been? I have some friends who want to go. What should they expect? Is Chalmette still considered trashy or has it gotten better since Katrina?

Not as trashy as the Bawcomville redneck Christmas parade, but it's a close call.

Since Katrina, Chalmette's actual trash level has finally reached their perceived trash level.

A lot of old women and fat men trading fake flowers for tongue kisses.

I'm likely running down there for an hour or two. The parade is a joke. It makes a u turn on Judge Perez, so you can catch it twice.

I'm just going to meet some friends to drink and eat some good shite, especially hogs head and oysters.

They also throw a lot of produce in that parade.

The dance teams are also spectacular.

Should be a good time. Sure there will be trash but lots of good folks as well. A lot of those that got away will come back for the party.

An overlooked culture for sure.

Yeah growing up I never really thought about it but as I got older I started to understand the reason we had so many different non traditional Louisiana sounding last names.

We have a couple of museums at the lower end of the parish... but that culture took a huge hit in the 1950s when St. Bernard schools banned Spanish. I think all of our Isleno Spanish speakers are gone by now
