I don't think anyone would genuinely argue that Celiac's disease really exists, as I would imagine people have died from it (though they may not have known the cause at the time).
I do agree that with most soccer moms claiming gluten allergies, that people would be a little more skeptical.
hope your dad is doing ok with this disease...

Catch-22 I think
I know people with celiac and all those who have real or perceived "intolerances" to gluten may be helping in some respects.
Gluten free food options used to be really really shitty. Now companies see money in it and the options are getting more numerous and tastier.

There are people with legitimate allergies to gluten, but people like my cousin just make it seem like celiac disease is a farce...

thanks again for the redundancy

People don't question claims of Celiac. They question claims of gluten intolerance. Liars don't typically come out and say they have Celiac. They say they can't handle gluten

ya man, buncha frauds out there and companies taking advantage of the trend
i guess on the bright side your dad has a lot more options at the grocery

Its a real disease
Just not nearly as prevalent as we are led to believe.
I know quite a few chicks who claim gluten allergies but happily drink beer with gluten in it

My gf was diagnosed with celiac about a year and a half ago. She spent years seeing auto-immune disorder specialists before they were able to diagnose her. It was a struggle at first experimenting with foods to find things that are gluten free but still taste good. Definitely worth it though as she used to constantly be sick and now she's never felt better.
I saw the thread you were talking about and I think the guy stipulated by saying people that aren't actually allergic to gluten because there's probably more people like your cousin who claim to have a gluten allergy when it's convenient for them than people like your dad or gf. We just roll our eyes when we see/hear comments like that and joke back but people are also very understanding when they find out its a legitimate gluten allergy and she isn't just eating gluten free because it's a fad.
I also dated a girl with celiac around 2006 when I was in HS. That was the first time I ever heard of gluten and still years before you started seeing gluten free stuff everywhere when it became a fad. She's actually friends with my gf now and had been a huge help suggesting menu options for my gf as she has much more experience with it.

I have to laugh at threads like this. Not so much for the OP, but the people in it. For nearly my entire life I have had "inherited IBS". I was diagnosed with GERD as well like 30 years ago. 5-6 years back a guy at work went gluten free. He talked about how much better he felt. I did the same just to try it out. Did so for like 3-4 months. My 3-4 150mg Zantac a day habit went away. Zero heartburn. My IBS totally disappeared. I lost 15 pounds or so. I felt great. But alas, life happened and I have very little will power (I was giving up smoking for lent, 10 packs ago). I guess many folks go gluten free because it's trendy. But you dipshits who think you know something about this only prove your idiocy to those of us who have actual experience with it.

There are casessentially of gluten intolerance without celiac. Basically, celiac has a genetic component iirc. My cousin has the intolerance but no celiac. He hates the people using the allergy for attention as well.
