If the hunt is legal, and the animal is not an endangered species, I have no problem with someone who participates in big game hunting.
I understand that the money generated helps with conservation and that it also helps to limit poaching.
It appears that in this case, however, that the hunt was not legal, and that the dentist/hunter has a history of illegal hunts. (Someone linked a story re a black bear in Wisconsin.)
He is a business owner, he did what he did, and regardless of his "intentions" he is now facing the consequences of his actions in a free market society.

I'm in for Africa. I really need to scratch a giraffe off the list.

Says the guy that doesn't get how natural selection works or how lion prides are formed. Fun stuff.

I love stupid PETA type dummies that don't understand the good this hunt does
dude, I love hunting as much as the next guy, try and kill several deer a year.
I just can't understand the point in killing shite you aren't going to eat. If its in the name of "conservation" why not just donate the cash?

All I can do at this point is laugh at the ignorance of people that don't understand these hunts.
They do way more good than harm.
This particular case may be different the way it was executed, but the legitimate hunts are for the better.

They will cook some lion the day you kill it. I'm looking forward to trying it.
I never thought I would like zebra or giraffe but they were by far my favorite meat when I was there a few months ago.

I wonder if america would get this butthurt if the dentist didn't kill the lion, but a year down the road some savage tribe over there kills it with spears.
"BUT THEY NEEDED THE FOOD!"
I also am in agreement that if you kill something you, or someone else should eat it.

So many people mourn for this lion but
But have probably done nothing to help lions in their life except bought a zoo ticket and saw a lion in a cage. I will bet anyone the Safari Club International has done more for conservation than anyone in this thread.

So everyone should just give their money away for nothing in return? What does it hurt to kill an animal that is going to die regardless if it does so much good?
And yes, I understand that this story may not have such noble intentions.

You're going to have a blast. I went on a similar hunt a few years ago and it was the most thrilling hunt I've been on. HUGE adrenaline rush.
So either this isnt you...or you are this guy:
