I got anxiety just watching this

quote:

During Thanksgiving in 2009, The Jones family suffered one of the most devastating losses imaginable. In the Nutty Putty cave, John Jones became trapped in a tight squeeze that turned out to be a dead end. 27 hours of intense rescue effort ended in tragedy.

This was posted a few weeks ago. I had a hard time sleeping for a few nights thinking about how he got stuck in that position and had to know he was going to die.

Damn I didn't know this was already posted. Regardless, I can't even imagine. Would seem like a horrible way to go

What a horrible way to go. I can’t even watch much of that. I don’t understand why anyone would put themselves in that position by taking an action like that; they’re better and far more safer ways to get a rush.

Is that the real name? It’s a comical name for something tragic like this.

Nutty Putty is the name of the cave in which the tragedy happened.

Nutty Putty is the name of the cave the incident took place in.

They cemented the entrance with his body still in there so no one will go back in to either find the body or get stuck themselves.

I had to go in for a CT scan a couple of days after I read this story. Was trying real hard NOT to think about it while in the machine.

When I was in high school, one of my buddies got into caving and got to know a few locals who knew of and had access to a bunch of local caves. Turns out hard core cavers guard that info like state secrets.

So we spent a summer crawling through all of these caves in the middle of nowhere. None of them had big caverns, but they went on forever.

My mom still tells me she was fine with most of the stupid shite we did growing up except for going in all of those un-known random caves.

I probably wouldn’t let my kids do it.

It was two months ago (November).

I watched a few videos back then and caving is something I don't think I could do. I could do it as long as I didn't have to wiggle my fat arse through some narrow passages or something like that. I'm not super claustrophobic, but I think I would get that way in a heartbeat if I were to get stuck or even semi-stuck in a caving situation where I'm literally situated and stuck between pieces of earth. No thanks.

This isn't a tragedy. A tragedy is something that could have been prevented. This is someone taking an unnecessary risk and getting called on it. Sucks. I do this when I mountain climb; One lose rock and I could be falling for a while. If I feel, it would be tragic for my family, but it would not be labeled a "tragedy".

Seems like the name came from the type of terrain in the cave. Generally you think of a cave with stalagmites and more rocky but this one looked more like a peanut butter clay type of material. Not saying that's what it was, but it didn't look like your traditional cave.

I absolutely don't see the draw to squeezing your body through the tiniest of tunnels like that. Dude made a mistake and paid the price for it. That is up there in the top 10 ways I DON'T want to go out. They said they were breaking his legs in order to try to get him out. Before he died because of all the blood rushing to his head.
