Catholic Wedding changes

My daughter is getting married and came home with a document from the church yesterday. And they wonder why people are leaving the Catholic church. apparently the Pope has made some changes to weddings moving forward:
-No longer will there be unity candles
-Fathers may no longer give the bride away
-Music must be a live singer that works at the church
-Limited number in wedding party
All wedding party must be over 6 years of age
no longer can give flowers during service to the Moms
Only one photographer during ceremony
Looks like we will have the wedding at the same place as the reception. wonder how many families will make the same decision.

Holy crap
That's definitely getting overboard. I understand some structure and rules to Catholicism, but they're definitely getting out of hand more and more. This is just laughable.

knew that was coming. No pics

Just went to a Catholic wedding two weeks ago and none of those rules applied. Maybe it's just a crazy priest.

This is so fricking stupid

paper said it was a decision from the North American Bishops council on behalf of the Vatican. Supposedly the rules started on 2/1. Asked the priest and he verified that is the new rules going forward and that he couldn't make any exceptions. I actually left the Catholic church some times back due to my frustration with it, but my daughter still attends.

That must be that particular church. Those are not Catholic rules.

This is the correct answer.......... More fake news by CNN?

Yeah this looks more like the Priest having these rules.

the priest said I may walk her halfway down the aisle, then I have to go to my seat. I cannot lift her veil, kiss her, or shake the grooms hand. AND, if I decide to walk her halfway down the aisle, the grooms father must walk him halfway as well. he can no longer wait in the front of the church. Otherwise they can walk by themselves or together. I'll be damned, I raised this kid for 24 years, I'm going to give her away like its always been.

Sounds like a priest who doesn't like doing long weddings

that's what I thought... Go look on your churches website at the wedding info. About half the churches have already posted the letter on their website. It should be labeled "liturgical Planning Special Information about the Wedding Liturgy". States the United States Catholic Bishops approved the revision on a recommendation from the Vatican.

The Pope performed our wedding ceremony

The father does not give the bride away is just a matter of semantics. You can still walk her up the aisle. But she is willfully entering the marriage, you don't need to give her to the groom (again just semantics). I think that's been in play forever.

90% sure its this. I got married in Jan and none of this applied. I know there was some minor changes to the wording in November though. Instead of
priest: have you come here......blah blah blah
the reaponse was "I do" which didnt make sense. It was changed to "I have"

I went to a catholic wedding a couple months ago and none of these rules were applied. It sounds like y'all should just go with a better church
