So I just got home from church and other things and I pulled into the garage and closed the door. About 3 or 4 minutes later the smoke detector started beeping. Backed the car out and turned the fan on and the alarm stopped. I then pulled the car back in and the alarm started right back up (even with the fan on this time).

No signs of smoke from the car, nothing apparently burning. It's a smoke detector only so it's not being set off by CO.

Anyone have any ideas?

Had someone put one in a non foamed attic, battery died probably because of excess heat and all started chirping. 28$ later for 9v batts I found it. Dumbazz.

Well it went off again tonight. Guess I need to get it into the shop. An oil leak is a possibility but the car's not using any oil (so far). Maybe it just started. I wonder if I have a bad bearing or something? Can't smell or see any smoke but the alarm senses it.

maybe get up on a ladder to see if you smell anything up high...

honestly, if you don't see or smell anything, you may just want to change the alarm out, as they go bad pretty frequently...

I would suspect a bad detector.

These aren't $1k sensors made for NASA use. They cost less than $100 and they can and do fail.

Some detect smoke but many are just a very sensitive heat sensor.

Another option to isolate the problem is to swap the suspect one out with a known good unit elsewhere in the house. Typically they put a few in the attic also.

Mine in my garage went out after 3 years. Would chirp at crazy hours of the night and was very sensitive. Probably has to do with it being outside.
