Aside from paper racing I'm not sure how much fun it is to drive a car that only capable of using 10-15% of its capabilities in normal day to day driving.

Yep. Much more fun driving a car closer to it's limit then telling people about it's limit because you can't get it there.

Volvo S60 Recharge is pulling 400+ HP on a 4 cylinder. That’s some funny shite. Granted it does get about 80 HP from an electric assist motor but that’s crazy.

Matt Farah told a story recently on his podcast where he was at the hypercar invitational at laguna seca a couple months ago. Everyone there is dumb rich. Aston is showcasing the valkyrie and taking participants for rides.

One absurdly rich guy gets out after his ride along and Farah asks him what he thought. His response was "I think I'm going to cancel my order".

A lot of guys (most?) don't really know how to drive their high performance cars well.

Stories of ZO6/ZR1 Vettes getting passed at HPDE events by well driven Miatas are common.

I have a truck that makes 355 HP stock and can pull 8000 pounds and get me 25-30 MPG while I'm driving to work. That's pretty damn impressive to me. When I hook up a trailer that MPG goes way down though.

Is it downhill all the way to work?

Assuming that's a 5.3 it's rated at 21 hwy. And the manufacturers are not in the habit of under reporting their mileage claims.

I remember my 2000gt was like 225 hp or so. 300hp was pretty much the benchmark where you had legit power. Now the baseline v6 blows their doors off.

I'm pretty much done with new sports cars. Classic market is more fun imo

The Telsa may have 1000 HP, but check the weight. Those batteries are heavy.

I dont believe this. I work in industry a 1000 HP electric motor is as big as the car and very heavy...

For those unaware, it has 1100 horsepower and over 1000 ftlbs of torque.

Funny thing is a 255HP Vortec in a late 90's Chevy C/K feels quicker around town than most of these new trucks as you don't have to rev it to get the power. Torque right off idle.

Probably because it weighs 1000lbs less than a new truck and isn't hobbled by torque management to protect driveline parts that are marginal. My fiancée has a 2004 RCSB Silverado with a 5.3L, told her to keep that truck as long as she can.

Industrial electric motors are designed to output their rated 1000 hp 24/7 basically forever! Tesla’s motor does make 1000 hp, but just for a brief few seconds of acceleration, huge design difference…

Hey, but you can get a pickemup truck that'll do 180 and go 0-60 in the time it takes you to say "truck nuts". Nevermind that it has a bed on it smaller than most TVs and you have to borrow your neighbor's trailer just to haul a new mattress set home.

ETA: I'm assuming the downvotes on this post are from "baws" who have 4WD, big tires, and a lift kit, but have never been offroad. And the only thing they ever haul is junior's bat bag and groceries. But, hey.......you can outrun that Honda Accord, so you have that going for you.

Think I will stick with my diesel Skoda Rapid for now. 70 mpg ain't as good as it seems when fuel cost me 8 euros a gallon. I've learned to live with my 100-ish hp.
