Brought the vehicle in to get a check engine light looked into. After a week in the shop, I get a call saying that they couldn’t find out why the check engine light has been on BUt my tires are under the recommended tread level. Mind you, the vehicle only has 10,500 miles on it.

The best part, they quoted me $950 plus $275 for balance PER tire. WTF

JEEZ! I cant wait for car dealerships to go away. They, like real estate agents, are useless.

IDK why anyone would bring their car to a stealership except for free warranty work. They mostly hire moderately functional retards and glorified parts changers.

They couldn’t tell you what code(s) were registered that cause the light to come on?

My mom brought in her suburban to the car dealership to fix a light cover for her fog lights, just the cover. They said they had to take the bumper off and itll cost 400.Thankfully my mom called me and I told her to leave immediately and go to oreilly. the cover was like 10$ and the guy behind the counter changed it for her. I do it to perfectly keep my lifetime powertrain warranty valid.

I take my car in twice a year for oil changes. Not that big of a deal to me. Ya'll act like you deal with dealerships every day or something.

This board really is just a bitch fest..

Shocks on my Tahoe went bad (they’re some sort of smart shock). Figured it would be a couple hundred fix, was quoted $3500 at the dealer.

Get fricked.

I called one to bring my truck in and the next available appointment was in like 3 weeks. That was an appointment to drop off and they couldn’t tell me how long it would sit there before they could look at it.

This is the same dealership that would come pick it up at my office and leave me a loaner 5 years ago

I had my 2021 Ram towed to the dealership 3 weeks ago because it wouldn't start, FOBs wouldn't work, etc. It had power and the battery was good. It was like it was locked out security-wise.

3 days after I brought it in, they said they thought it could be a shorted wire somewhere and that it would take some time to diagnose. I told them, that before I brought it in, it had water under the back seat. I told them the problems the truck is having is a typical problem when the back window leaks (extended service bulletin for that). The water travels down the back wall and into the RF Hub that is mounted there.

I let them know when that happens, the RF Hub shorts out. This part controls the communication between the FOBs and the vehicle. When it goes out, the truck is essentially locked out for security reasons. What was happening with my truck is exactly what would happen when this occurs. And since my vehicle had water under the back seat, this was likely the issue. It was 10 days after that when they finally ordered the RF Hub.

Here we are exactly 3 weeks later and my truck is finally ready... ish. The service technician told me, "When we took out the RF Hub it was full of water. It was crazy." He then said the back window is leaking and a local company does that work for them. I let the service rep know that they could call me when that company is ready to fix the back window leak and took my truck.

This shouldn't have taken 3 weeks, especially with the info I told them. If it wasn't under warranty, I wouldn't have brought it to the dealership.

Yeah, it took me almost three weeks to get an appointment. When the purchase was made, I was promised to be able to get loaners while the vehicle was in the shop, but if I wanted a loaner this particular time, the next date available was February 17th

We do the same, but I get why some people get in a panic when talking to the services guys and end up backed into a corner and paying for shite they don't need. Wife brought her Suburban in for an oil change ($20 with the coupon). Guy tried to upcharge her to change filters, change wiper blades, a/c service, throttle body service, differential service, coolant flush. Told them to call me, so I start asking "why now" and getting the it's recommended per the manual. I ask if it's necessary to maintain the warranty and get the obvious scripted answer. They finally stopped at the coolant flush when I asked for the results of the pH tests.

I made an appointment yesterday at 8am for my Tahoe. They called at 3pm and said they haven’t looked at it yet and there were 2 cars still ahead of me and I needed to leave it until they had time to get to it. I said I’d leave it overnight and if they couldn’t look at it by the next day, I’d call the owner(who I know personally) and ask him what I could do.

They called back 45 minutes later and said it was ready.

Lakeside Toyota wanted to charge me $240.00 to change the headlight bulb on my Tundra. The only reason I even entertained going there is because they are right by work and I didn't want to drive across the causeway at night going home and get a ticket.

Told them to go pound sand. I'll roll the dice and change it this weekend.

(for not, you have to disassemble the front end of the truck to get to the damn bulb.

Save yourself headaches for the rest of your life by getting a car scanner. AutoZone/Advanced Auto Parts/O'Reilly's will all scan for free as well. They're much more reliable if you are able to DIY the fixes yourself. You need to write down the error codes and tell the dealer next time. No reason a car with that few miles should have any error codes unless you knocked something out of place. A lot of newer cars don't even have gas caps so you don't have to worry about that BS light coming on. Generally, you will only want to take it in if you notice any change in performance.

Only time I had to use a dealer for my vehicle was because it needed a computer update and I couldn't do that on my own, which is total BS and cost too much money for what should be free. Car would not go above 2,000 RPM and it needed a dealer to update the car even after I replaced the correct parts.

Don't they just hook that shite up to a computer that tells them exactly why the light is on? It's not like they have to go digging, it should tell them.
