I'm thinking this "Service engine" is something as simple as an oil change.

I know there's no implied warranty for repairs.

I hate to keep arguing with you but Louisiana law states that is not true as well. The vehicle should be as described with only minor deviations allowed to be expected in a used vehicle. Also law states that given age and mileage the purchaser can request to turn the vehicle in for recompense. Most would rather fix it and keep the sale than lose it have to fix anyway and have to sale again.

Car Dealership Accountability Most dealerships have the 30 day 50/50. But usually if its a mom/pop stop, it hits the pavement, its YOUR problem. Nothing to protect you

Wrong! Louisiana law is very clear on the subject.

So this does not apply to Louisiana?

State laws hold dealers responsible if cars they sell don’t meet reasonable quality standards. These obligations are called implied warranties – unspoken, unwritten promises from the seller to the buyer. However, dealers in most states can use the words “as is” or “with all faults” in a written notice to buyers to eliminate implied warranties. There is no specified time period for implied warranties.

Depends of the dealer. Go see them and inform them of the issue. What's the mileage and age of said Titan.

Service engine has nothing to do with oil change, although I did once have a used car salesman tell me it did. Service engine also doesn't have anything to do with anything serious, EVER.

You don't know and wont' believe it, but "check engine" lights and "service engine" lights exists bc of OPEC.

My truck doesn't have a "Service engine" light; rather, a "Mant Req'd" light.

Most likely something minor for check engine light. If it was something major, you probably have a legal leg to stand on as most major problems don't happen overnight.

If it's running and shifting fine, it's minor.

Yeah, I'm hoping it's a very Minot issue. I normally wouldn't pay attention to a service engine light, but it's been less than 48 hours since I pulled it off the lot. Just seems kind of suspect.

if there is a redhibitory defect, you would have recourse against the dealer regardless of "as is" language in the sale. Just google Louisiana redhibition and used cars.

Well if is an emission problem they could have deleted the code and it would not reset till a drive cycle! So they could have done that on to fool you!

I understand what "as is" means. That's not my question. If it's something major...something they definitely knew about... what are my options?

And FWIW, my service light was on for years due to just a glitch.
