Can you ge sued for libel by impersonating someone online

This weekend I was joking around on an IRC chat room/server and impersonated the president of a privately held company that I am a loyal customer of, just to joke around. Didn't think much of it. Decent sized company, based on what I can find, brings in about 10 million a year in revenue. I didn't even do anything bad when impersonating him, all I did was quote and mock the videos he makes for his company.
Anyway two days later last night I got an email saying I have a new message in my MemoServ inbox, and I read it, and its the CEO himself of the company telling me what I am doing is libelous and he has notified his lawyers. I also got an email saying that this person tried to change the password of the username I registered, which was his first name and the name of his company. After sleuthing around the hostmask this individual was using traced back to the city his company is in, so I am pretty sure it was him, or one of his employees, and not just someone pretending to be him.
Kind of weird for a successful company president to be worrying about such matters, but do I have anything to worry about here or is he just mad that someone was playfully and harmlessly poking fun at him on an IRC server.

You just need to log off the Internet for a while.

Dude chill the frick out. Yesterday you were asking if you can get arrested for calling a charging lesbo a bulldike or something.
Either you are a liar...highly probable. Or you like to act tough, but then worry about the consequences like a little bitch.

The internet has opened up a whole new dimension of criminal activity. I would be curious as to what the precedent was for what you did. These literally must be being established every day.

How did he find out that you were doing this?

He's clearly 15 or younger

Parody, Satire, and Defamation are all completely different. Maliciously spreading false statements of fact about another person or business is against the law. I'd imagine if your posts impacted his business or his reputation it's illegal

Absolutely.. he could definitely be charged with a crime, assuming he isn't going to be tried as a minor
