Seems to work in Vancouver, BC. Why not here? Is there a legitimate reason not to do this in the US? Heroin, it's never going away.

The lawmaker is proposing that the citizens of California buy heroin to give to addicts with the assistance of , I'm assuming, medical people. Simply giving people heroin is not how you get people off the drug. It may reduce needle borne diseases and overdoses (among addicts who choose to go there), but it's not going to make a dent in an an addiction epidemic.

I'm very socially liberal and I have to agree.

We need to think bigger. It all starts with pharmaceuticals.

Blind Link bro :( .

Anyways, I am almost to the point where everything should be legal and let Darwin separate the strong from the weak.

Glad I never tried that crap.

In my little circle of friends I've had two with an opioid addiction, just like most of them they started with the pills.

One (female) holds a Masters from Tulane and ended up in prison.

That's how things should be.

A guy that was one of my best friends around 10 years ago OD'd yesterday and is sitting in the hospital on life support right now. Heroin is a bitch. Like most, he started on pills then switched to heroin. It's a sad situation and lots of people aren't strong enough to kick the habit.

It has been proven in other countries to actually be cheaper than the medical costs to treat those that screw up. We are behind the times on this.

The heroin problem is only getting worse too as the govt continues to grow in in Afghanistan, while cracking down on doctors who wrote painkillers here in the states.

A paranoid person might think it was being done on purpose.

If the Government would stop importing Heroin to the States there wouldn't be such a huge opioid epidemic.

I've lost 4 friends now I think.

Several others might as well be dead, they're junkies with enabling families.

Or having American soldiers acting as private security for poppey fields in Afghanistan.

One might think we are there for the wrong reasons if that fact got more publicity.

Honestly, they have gone the "destroy poppy fields" route and it just gets worse over there in terms of hatred of America. It makes the rural farmers destitute. I brought that point up once on here and was convinced I was wrong.

Ironically guess who did do a really good job of eradicating opium production over there? The same guys that fought the Soviets in the 80s.

Your never going to stop use. You're better off bringing it to light and treat it like?a disease.

The problem is where do you put these places. I'd shite a brick if an "injection site" opened on my street.

Wouldn't bother me. I'd worry more about the frickers burglarizing random residential homes. There's the real problem.

I don't know. There's a plasma donation place near me that attracts hordes of addicts. Things get ripped off around there constantly. I've got to think an actual injection site would be at least as bad.

I'm for it. It cuts out the dealers and helps the addicts shoot up in a safe and comfortable spot. You could just have the clinics in the spots junkies already hang out anyway (ex. the tenderloin in SF)

Fake news. Nowhere in that article is supervised opioid use proposed, or even mentioned.
