Regardless of your opinions on climate change and global warming, it is important to understand global warming doesn't mean the constant increase in temperature.

Well it did until the temperature didn't continue to steadily rise, this the switch to the term climate change. Which means, we don't fully understand the changes in weather on our planet, but we can scare people into giving us money by saying that people are changing our climate.

Correct

It means extreme weather and weather swings.

It is also a blanket term for the change of the gaseous composition of the atmosphere, i.e., the increase in sulfur compounds in the past 100 years. The carbon cycle is another great thing to look at.

Exactly. The big government types were dismayed to find out that normal people were onto their power/tax grab with "global warming". Too specific. "Climate change" can mean anything they want it to mean in order to increase regulation, increase taxes and infringe on private property rights.

Good. Now we can pollute the air and not worry about it bc Calgary has snow.

Agreed there are people who use this to achieve financial gains. I will not pretend to be an expert on the subject, just pointing out the factors/results are more convoluted than consistent rising temperatures

You need to go back to science class. It's always been climate change. The fact that idiots spout off about global warming doesn't change that. Global warming is a naturally occurring thing, without it the Earth would be a giant popsicle.

But even a dumdum has to realize they burning millions of tons of fossile fuels for hundreds of years has to have some kind of impact on the environment, right?

Right.

I'm constantly told "this is weather, not climate" unless it fits a liberal narrative then freak occurrences like this are "clear signs".

Neither is Phoenix.

I understand the basics of how our climate works, no need for a science lesson. My point was that people are using the term "man-made climate change" to profit from fear mongering.
FTR I'm all for using renewable clean energy, but the technology just isn't there yet. The only reason I have solar panels on my house is because the state has/had a huge tax credit. Thanks everybody! LOL

Not to hijack the main topic of the thread, however, the bigger environmental situation is the pollution of our oceans in my opinion. States like California are already experiencing water issues and others such as Florida are not far behind. Using sea water to solve this problem is a viable option, only if we can lower the cost of desalination and purification of the water. One country who has done a remarkable job of this is Saudi Arabia.

You're arguing about 3 separate points there and none of them are linked. Get your shite together.

Not really fear-mongering by the scientists, just common sense. Now the politicians and media, sure, it goes to extremes. But based on the stupid commentary I see on message boards whenever these topics come up people seem to need fear mongering.

Weather is tricky and people obviously don't have a true handle on how things effect it on a global scale. But there have been many other signs of issues with climate change, not just weather. But I'm not really interested in a TLDR essay session.
