Payday loans in the South are gonna be around for a long time and highly profitable.

Mattress store. Profit margin and I don't know a single person that sleeps on the floor.

Donut shops

I know good coffee only costs about $0.05/cup to make, sell it for $1.99, donuts aren't quite that profitable but still sell for 8~10x the cost to make them, I'd imagine. What don't you get?

Correct. The one on Coursey has been absolutely slammed since it opened, too.

And they have family working them, likely making less than minimum wage, and skimming taxes.

I surely hope you're not actually confused as to how these 3 are still in business.

To page 2 giving a shoutout to LA Boiler's, so true. I was beyond convinced they're laundering money, but I do actually see more customers there these days.

I get how the numbers work, but it's so fricking disgusting to me how many cheeseburger joints survive in Baton Rouge. Absolutely astounding how many cheeseburgers are consumed in Baton Rouge every single day. fricking gross

Exotic birds are expensive, but I also remember hearing about some LSU frat kids' dad who was said to be a "bird importer" being arrested for dealing drugs in the 80's. Could be a front.

This place fricking sucks. At first you're like "Oh my god, so many flavors of popcorn, I never knew I wanted to have gumbo flavored popcorn, I have to try it, this will be my new favorite place."

The you try it and you're like "Why the frick would they make gumbo flavored popcorn, this is shite, never coming back."

Italian pie on perkins. Place has to be closing soon. It's a complete ghost town 95% of the time. Even peak times

In alot of places, I totally understand. But I never understood why there was always a huge line at the one on vets in Metairie. Between Parrans, Manos, and several other badass po boy shops, Jimmy John's shouldn't make a cent.

Dry Cleaners.

Never used one, probably never will. Always looks empty. Somehow still around year after year.

Know owners of 2 different dry cleaners and both make some pretty damn good money. Service based business where the labor is relatively cheap and you don't have to keep any inventory, so profit margin % on each customer is pretty high and operating expenses are low after purchasing the machines/equipment. Just looks empty because customers just go in to drop off or pickup and out the door within a minute or 2.

What you got?

Those mall kiosks that sell phone cases/accessories. Always just see the worker playing around on their phones and no customers. Plus having to stock cases for so many different models and then when the new model comes out and dimensions change, it seems like it would be tough to get rid of cases for an older model phone.

Agree on the mattress stores. While we were living in Baton Rouge there were so many. On Millerville, near Target there were two Mattress Firm stores, a short walk from each other in the same shopping area. I was suspicious.

The psychic shop on college at the end of corporate Blvd. That place has been there for as long as I can remember and I've never seen anyone there
