Bud Light boycott likely cost Anheuser-Busch InBev over $1 billion in lost sales

The world’s largest brewer may have lost as much as $1.4 billion in sales because of the backlash to its brief partnership with a transgender influencer to promote Bud Light beer.
Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD) reported record revenues for 2023 Thursday but said its “full growth potential was constrained” by its US business, where sales were hurt by a boycott of Bud Light over a sponsored Instagram post with Dylan Mulvaney.
In North America, organic revenue, seen as the best measure of operating performance, plunged $1.4 billion last year as beer sales by volume tumbled in the region, primarily due to a decline in Bud Light sales in the United States. Beer makes up the lion’s share of AB InBev’s revenue.
Bud Light sales tanked after the company’s partnership with Mulvaney last April sparked an anti-trans backlash and calls for a boycott. A tepid response to the controversy from the company also angered LGBTQ+ advocates.
The firestorm saw Mexican lager Modelo Especial dethrone Bud Light the following month as America’s top-selling beer, a title the brand had held for more than two decades.

It did work and it proved that a boycott could work, for at least a certain amount of time. But eventually people will go back to what they know.

Never understood the boycott crap. If I drank bud light why would I quit drinking what I like just because someone decides to go in a different direction???

With so many younger people no longer drinking especially beer. Wonder how long before we don't have entire grocery aisles with 100 different types of beers

Sure I do. But I’m also not brainwashed.

I encourage people to read up/listen to Matt Mascanos position on this... basically he called everyone in Louisiana idiots who boycotted this because it hurt local rice farmers... when in reality he doesn't give a shite you other then who paid him advertising dollars

I'm not in advertising or marketing but it doesn't take a genius to know trans, gays, women, effeminate men, etc are not beer drinkers. They like fruity drinks and daiquiris. Sure, there's a few women with a beer in their hand, but damn, men like beer. Bud Light tastes like shite but some people like it. Cater to the baws. Not the dick tuckers

Duckie, when a company goes libtard and virtual signals and throws a tranny at their beer you stop drinking it. Unless, you are a libtard or trannie

I don’t know how much it may not be a lot, but they lost a portion of their consumer base for good. A few months after all that went down I was with a fishing buddy we were standing around his bass boat and a mutual fence comes up with a bud light. Not 10 seconds went by before somebody asked him why he was drinking tranny piss and everybody laughed That’s the kind of shite that sticks with you.

Don’t go there….I never have drank bud light. And I think a person should keep what god gave them… but I guess I’m not as influenced as you are.

I doubt any high end executives lost a penny extra in salary, stock options, etc. Thus, 1.4 billion to them meant nothing

I was more (I don't think this is the right word but) pissed at that V.P. who basically insulted her customers.
I don't/didn't understand how insulting your core base to try and appeal to a.% of the population was smart.
