A Baton Rouge police officer who was suspended for violating the department's use of force policy when he fatally shot a dog during a robbery call is planning an appeal of the disciplinary action to the 19th Judicial District Court, according to his legal representation.
quote:

Officer Abraham Wilson III's original 10-day suspension was reduced to five days after an appeal in mid-February by the Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Board, but Wilson still believes his actions were justified, said Sgt. Myron Daniels, with the Capital Area President of Magnolia State Peace Officers Association, who represented Wilson.
quote:

But based on the body camera video from the incident and the internal investigation, Chief Carl Dabadie determined the shooting was unnecessary. The Advocate obtained that video from February 2016 when Wilson responded to a robbery victim in the 5400 block of Adams Ave., soon leading to the shooting.

I think I'll side with Dabadie on this one.

He's a fricking moron evidently. Those dogs were very aggressive and hindered his ability to respond to the call appropriately.

It seems like Dabadie determined it was unneccessary bc the cop said, "Aww F* it" when he drew his pistol.

It was clear the dogs were aggressive. they even would advance towards him each time he stepped away.

IMO, the cop did just about everything right except keeping the "Aww F* it" internalized. I certainly would have been thinking the same thing.

from the comments

quote:

Patty Hatton Gibbons · Alton, Illinois Just another stupid ready to shoot and kill cop! There was no reason to kill that dog. The stupid officer had plenty of opportunity to get in his car and leave. He was more interested in the dogs than the crook sitting in his car. What if the burgler had a gun and shot the cop in the back as it is very clear in the video the stupid cop had his back to the guy sitting in his car. That STUPID cop used profanity several times which to me shows he was the agressive part of the situation and very unstable. He just wanted to shoot the dog in front of people to somehow show off. To me he should have served the 10 day suspinsion and brought up on animal cruelty charges. He is an idiot!

It says in the story clearly that the victim was the one sitting in his car and this woman is calling the cop stupid.

She's from Illinois and is commenting on an article in Baton Rouge.

Looks like a clean shoot to me.

Now what would be the reaction had someone died because of the wasted time he spent interacting with the dogs ??

Was the robber in that house? I

Seeing as the victim was safely in his car and the officer had plenty opportunity to get back in the car as well to wait for Animal Control or backup, it's hard to justify.

That's my question. If he NEEDED to approach that house to search for a robber he should have shot those dogs and rushed to the house.

Get ready for the Gary Chambers of the world to claim that BRPD officer gets more punishment for killing a dog than a black man.

FTR I am glad he shot the dog. The owner had no vaccination records, it wasn't on a leash, and the officer probably saved someone from getting mauled in the future.

This officer should be on administrative leave pending a mental evaluation. "Shots fired" that's completely chicken shite. What did the dog fire back?

He obviously should have waited until the dog began its mauling process before taking action to defend himself. It's what all the armchair quarterbacks would have done.

Yeah. No reason for him to still be out of his car while waiting for animal control.

If he feared for his life why didn't he ever have a cartridge in the tazer? He couldn't spark it without firing the cartridge. Why didn't he get behind his car? The argument that he was afraid is total bullshite. He just wanted to kill something.

Put my arse on a jury and this guys career would be over.

i get that some people have differing opinions but the cop did the public a huge favor that day.
All these "he didn't have to shoot it,just get in your car and wait for animal control" people are just being oversensitive pussies.
A cop does not need to cower in fear in his car. He's sworn to serve and protect the public.

Cowering in fear in your car is not doing anything he was sworn to do. Dabadie is a huge vagina evidently.

From the advocate story

quote:

Wilson exited the vehicle with his body camera on and used a Taser and mace to deter the dogs, the video shows. He asked neighbors who were outside two houses down if they knew whose could control the dogs, but got no response, his incident report says. Wilson calls for back up and animal control.

Yeah, just keep crucifying police officers for things you have no clue about. You sound so informed.

bullshite, he used the tazer to get the dog to come to him so he could shoot it in it's own yard. It never left it's own yard.
