Im only a holiday Catholic, like my priest buddy calls me. I joined the KC for bball tournament, and to get my kid into the local catholic school. It didn't work. But I am still a KC.

Converts are the best Catholics because we usually know the Bible. Cradle born Catholics do not know the Bible like Catholics who used to be Protestants.

Without giving details, how was the 4th degree ceremony? Was it as awesome as what I've been told?

Highly recommend for any Catholic man. Extremely beautiful ceremony.

Just be on the lookout for when a 4th degree will be in your area. I got mine done in Lafayette, and my dad had to go to Slidell.

What are these degrees you speak of? It is like the holier you are the higher degree you get?

Did any of y'all do all three degrees in one day? They offered that in my area and I went for it. By the end of the 3rd degree I was pretty drunk simply because the old men made us drink between each degree...

Clubs usually have a membership fee.
Gangs you usually just have to shoot someone first.

I don't think it really matters what degree you are, but our council really pushes to get people to move to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th degree. So it must matter somehow up the ladder.

But no, you aren't any more holy when you move up. I do know the 4th degree ceremony is pretty serious with all the Cpt. Morgan outfits.

No one man is more Holy than any other man (I'm looking at you, Pope). Some Catholics disagree with me. I come at it from a Baptist point of view.

I jokingly refer to myself as a Baptist Catholic and I inject some of my Protestant thoughts into my Catholicism.

Made the transition from Baptist to Catholic easy.

In all honesty, I believe he'd agree with you. Men are human, he introduced himself at one of his 1st interviews as a sinner.

Not interested in 4th degree yet. I have too many other commitments to do honor guard duties at this point, and know they would guilt me into it if I was an option to help.

I have a brother in-law who is a very pretentious cradle born Catholic. He adamantly disagrees with me regarding the Pope. He believes all Popes were selected by God and we should direct our faith in God through the Pope.

I adamantly disagree with him which results in huge blowup fights.

When I ask him if he believes Popes who sanctioned the killing thousands to millions of people during the Crusades, Inquisition, and Reformation were ordained by God, he fumbles over his words and tries to turn it around because he knows there have been many Popes who were NOT good men.

I like to remind him that the election of a Pope is nothing more than human politics. Sometimes the Catholic Church is rewarded with a good Pope. Sometimes not. Regardless, no Pope is closer to God than me or you.

That pisses him off so much. He seriously believes I cannot be a Catholic if I think that way. He even threatened to revoke my godfather status if I did not change my thinking.

I gave him the middle finger and said something like, "The whole Godparent thing is crap anyhow. So I'm the godfather of one out of three of your children...big deal! If you and your wife were to suddenly die tomorrow, would I be responsible for raising one of three of your children? No. You've designated your mother to raise your children if something happens to you and your wife. Godparents are nothing more than a popularity contest of which children are dragged into at birth."

He went nuclear!
