In a letter Broome sent to the governor Thursday, she argues that calling the election on May 4, when proponents of the incorporation effort want the proposal to hit the ballot, wouldn't give St. George organizers enough time to hold the numerous public meetings that she deems necessary to answer questions about the controversial issue.

SG organizers would like to vote in May.

The SG movement has been trying for years to get this vote. They submitted their petition in October and it took four months to approve it.
Now the mayor and others want to delay it even further.

I suspect they are lining up some big guns to stop the movement and need more time. If it was an election for a new tax they wouldn't be delaying.

We have a long way to go yo defeat city hall and the status quo. I'm looking for Edwards to side with Broome.

Another stumbling block

Nice of you to be concerned about us but don’t worry Mayor, we’ll be ok.

Obviously hoping to push it to an election where more people would vote (like November).

If they did it in May people against won't be as likely to vote as people for.

And why I try and do what I can to keep folks here up to date.

Our mayor is trying to delay this vote. She opposes the movement. She is no friend of SG. They will do anything to kill it.

Her only hope is fear tactics and she needs time for them to work. I heard a TogetherBR person last week say St George property taxes could double or triple. It’s their last chance.

As they did in the tax election to get MovEBR passed.

They will run the same play.

You right... if this was a tax election, they would want it as quickly as possible and with little notice or discussion.

Frauds.

Having said that, the St George people need to act better tan the Dems. It should be held on a ballot that will already attract a lot of people, and give time for everyone to become truly informed.

That's basically all it's about.

When her term is up she'll still need more time.

They will say and do anything, that statement is absurd.

Gravy and Banks. It will look like St George got hit by an elephant stampede. I’m sure Helmet Head will show up admonishing people for their lack of white guilt.

Um...I would respectfully submit that Broome's opinion as to when this vote should take place should be given the same value as a dead body on the side of the interstate.

While when to call the election is the governor's decision, the only opinions that should matter are those of STG organizers and the people that would be voting in the election.

How long would that take?
Seven months? That's what Btoome wants.

They delayed the review of the petition, now they want to delay the vote.

This issue can be debated in two months.

Good Lord they’re all idiots. I thought that if JBE has no legal, emphasis on legal, means to delay then he can’t do it.

The thing is, it doesn't matter at all. We can vote for it in May or do the vote in November. They can put out a bunch of lies and propaganda...but the funny thing is St George is going to pass at a record level.

There's nothing mayor bitch can do to stop the overwhelming support for St George.

I would do it in the fall primary.

Play the long game here. Broome et al will be given plenty of time to embarras themselves. All while giving off the signal that the St George people have nothing to hide.

this is a big deal. if the only way it passes is by rushing it, it shouldn't pass.

No, they wouldn't be that stupid.

They will get prominent civic and political leaders to advocate a no vote. Leaders invested in the status quo. The same crowd who brought us the mental health tax, the COA, IBM, the Downtown Library, and MovEBR.
