So this morning on the way to work the driver's side wheel well on my car just collapsed. I'm assuming it's a broken axle. Thankfully I had just pulled out of the driveway.

I'm still relatively new in town here so where's the best place to take it for repair and what $ am I looking at?

what kind of vehicle? Sounds like you broke a ball joint not an axle.

What exactly does this mean. Is the wheel normal and the fender is sitting directly on top of the tire now?

If not then it is probably the ball joint.

How do you know it's an axle?

What kind of vehicle and what year?
Have you done any Dukes of Hazard jumping recently or ever?

Do you know how hard it would be to break an axle?

Not sure what this means but I do not think you would describe a broken axle in this way.

What kind of vehicle? Was the damage in the front or rear?

If rear then it sound like the shock or shock mount which has failed.

If front then something on the spindle or control arms.
