I agree with putting this kind of school in NBR, I'm just not sure if another private high school is really needed in SBR.

CHS/SJA/EHS has wonderful education program, but not everyone can afford these schools now. Pull up the price difference between St Joe and RHS and even St Mikes.

My concern is that it seems like they're already setting this school up planning on using voucher $. While the school might offer a unique program that could help many inner-city youths succeed, the 57% 4-year graduation rate doesn't promise to do any better than EBRPSS. EBRPSS's 4-year graduation rate is currently 68.6%, behind LA's of 73.5%. LINK

In terms of tuition? Because it is not in the same discussion as far as education goes.

I'd say somewhere even closer to Ascension.

Ascension parish has no decent Catholic HS. The kids coming out of STA have to commute to BR or go to public HS out there, which ain't bad by any stretch.

Redemptorist is the private school in North BR that is currently going to die with it's old public school neighbors. Glen Oaks, Istrouma, are prime examples of the trend that has already happening in the cities across the U.S. What white parent would allow his/her daughter to attend a dance at RHS at night regardless whether she was accompied by a burly white male? RHS is going to suffer the same fate that the RHS rams encountered in New Orleans.

It was one of those urban rumors that was floating around for a while. I wanna say that a wealthy family (I forget who) was gonna donate the land.

Would be great to see RHS make a comeback. My dad talks fondly about how good of a school it was and how awesome their basketball teams used to be. Hell, it was still a very respectable and good school when I graduated in 2006 from CHS. Seems to be struggling alot since then. Whats the deal Modern?

It's the effects of Central and Zachary pulling out of EBR that's taken its toll.

Feeder schools are slim or shut down. Most of the kids I went to elementary school with were from the central, Zachary, greenwell area.

Oh, and dr verges doesn't give 2 shits about RHS....St Mikes is her golden child.

If Sister michaeleen haven't retired, I promise you RHS would not be in its condition that it's in.

As an RHS Alum, I often wonder why this school does not receive the support from the majority of the Alumni. The answer is simple; ever since RHS was made a diocesan school the superintendent and chief administration has been hell bent on watching it fail. Only Two Catholic High Schools in Baton Rouge succeed and that's because they don't rely on the diocese to tell them how to wipe their arse. People are sick of pumping money into their school to have some slapdick tell them how they are going to spend it. I believe that if RHS was allowed to be run by the Redemptorist Order kind of like SJA and CHS is run, then you would see a better school. This is my opinion and might not count for shite but I am glad I could get this off my chest.

+1

Verges is a bitch and shouldn't be the head of the education of the diocese.

Who is paying for the NBR kids to go to this school? Cause we know their parents aren't. While it's a good idea on paper, I don't think it'll work. The HS drop out rate in BR is around 56%. So sending kids with that kind of dropout rate to a school paid for by government vouchers just screws the taxpayer. NBR needs a military based boarding school if they want to put a new school there.

The issue is that when RHS had to compete with Central and Zachary, the upper admin gave up. Rather than taking the opportunity to compete against them showing contrast between a public and catholic education and keeping the money there, they just sat on their asses and watched the base crumble.

St. George High School right across Ward Creek from the church. There's a bunch of green space behind the Safety Council building. It would back up to Pennington YMCA.
