designing a robot to be like a human outside of the hands doesn't make a lot of sense.

Then why didn't Charles Darwin design us like that?

The robot jackboots of the ruling class, free of the pesky emotional ties that prevent human jackboots from firing on their family and neighbors.

Can't wait.

It's in all likelihood the entire reason this species exists. Homo Sapiens are likely just a caterpillar stage for whatever our evolution is making. Not many species stay the same and survive. And we're a species that has eyes on the stars. Which means we will have to survive in the most inhospitable environs possible. This machine we're all sitting in is made for inside the atmosphere of earth. Anything else and it dies and you move on to wherever the next step is for your soul.

Being a meat eating bipedal murder-monkey is a great strategy for taking over this planet. Not so much for interstellar travel. Unless we change the body of course.

It's unnerving to think about. And I'm sure I'll get downvoted to pieces, and normally I'd agree with you. But we're going to have to adapt if we're going to get off this planet and spread the species. You are not your body. It's an elegant device for keeping a soul in this particular spot in the universe. If God made that for you, why would you be restricted to that if he also made you intelligent enough to become a multiplanet species? Yeah there's a lot of scary shite about it. But what isn't scary about this life?

Not sure how you're getting from A to Z here.

Your premise seems to be that our soul is our "true self" which, for the sake of this reply, I'll go ahead and agree with.

You seem to be implying that if we could somehow upload our soul into a robot, then our true selves could survive inhospitable environments.

But what makes you think that souls are even compatible with computer technology? Or any technology, for that matter.

If God made that for you,

I'd say that "if God made that for" me - thereby assuming there is a God - then the natural destination for the soul upon separation from the physical body is another dimension that exists outside of this physical one that is more like God's dimension.

for whatever our evolution is making.

BTW, evolution doesn't "make" anything. And it certainly doesn't plan ahead. Are you implying intelligent design?

More than likely. They are still very pricey right now. In 20 years it will be common thing. I'm ok with this.

With what they will be paying fast food workers in many states over the next few decades a few of these as replacements would pay for themselves in a few years. Added bonus these don't have attitudes.

Anyway, as these get better these robots will be great for fast food, assembly lines, and other menial repetitive task.

Imagine if robots are created to clean the streets of trash. And then one day, the AI realizes that humans are the ones creating the trash. It’s really uncharted territory where we have these things that are way superior in intelligence becoming self aware that they don’t need us.

I work I'd in 3-D materials sector. Had an informal interview with a 3-D scanning company one day. They brought out their toys to show me how they scan entire plants from slab to smoke stack. One was one of those robot dogs the police and military use now. I've seen and read about them countless times, but that first time it rounded a corner, scanned me and went on about its mechanical way gave me chills.

So just like that mechanical dog thing from Black Mirror (Metalhead episode). Great.

This is the new Boston Dynamics humanoid robot, the way it gets up and turns around exorcist style gives it a creepy murder vibe too.

This is good, we need a slave labor force to take care of our growing elderly population. They would carry them, around, make sure they take their meds on time. There would be a nurse or two at the stations, but helping the elderly with their day to day going, a tireless machine would be a step in the right direction.

Likewise, special needs kids can also be taken care of by such a robot-Ai. Its perfect.

sounds cool until someone hacks into the Popeyes network and programs the bots to discard all the spicy chicken.
