For me the rule in question is #1 for a reason. Booty call buddies aren't relationships and shouldn't be thought of in that way. This is complicated but matters of the heart are never easily explained. But if you fall for your booty call buddy and the feeling is mutual then more power to you. However, for me once I am or someone I have hooked up with is relegated to the role of booty call it means there is not long term potential. It is like having an affair without the SO. BTW, I don't recommend doing the booty call buddy thing with someone who is in a serious relationship. Truthfully I am not sure you had a booty call buddy based on the fact that it was your ex-gf and all. Sounds like a long-distance relationship, albeit only 45 minutes away.

I find it disturbing that someone had to "teach" you these common sense things about being a single male.

I was naïve and it never occurred to me. Truthfully the role of mentor is pretty common in most areas of life. Cardiologists don't just graduate from med school and walk in a OR and open up someone's chest cavity. They watch someone else do it and gradually take over.

In my defense, I was a fast learner.
