No. Mostly because the scholarships were offered secondarily through the school. I.e. the actual organizations giving the scholarship weren't with the school (private), and as soon as they saw him they knew what was going on.

OK, if a person believes in evolution and believes the current prevailing thinking that the progression of hominid evolution primarily occurred on the African continent, likely culminating in modern man within the African continent. Also, reverse projections of mitochondrial DNA seem to indicate a single female progenitor in Northern Africa.
So, wouldn't we all technically be "persons of the African Diaspora"?
