such as Blinds dot com --- who here has done it? What is the advantage of having someone who works for a local company come out and measure custom-fit shades/blinds?

I haven't checked locally, but I have to assume that buying locally will be considerably more expensive.

What is the disadvantage to buying at a place like blinds dot com? I am only referring to them because I have heard their advertisement before --- if there is another or better online store, I'm open to suggestions.

I have four full-size windows that I need some type of window treatment for, and I have a corner window (kitchen) as well. On the four full-size windows, I would like the ability to have a blackout option - as I think it will help my house maintain a better temperature during the summer months without having to run the A/C the majority of the day.

I haven't looked at pricing even online --- yet. I am mentally preparing myself for the "how in the world do they charge that much for this ..." discussion in my head.

Hanging blinds is like 4 screws. Send them your measurements and do them yourself.

Blinds.com was perfect for me. Didn't buy the cheapest ones, got wood. Measure exactly and just give them the measurement. They'll make the appropriate trim distance on the side. All are perfect 3 years later.

I have no problem doing this on my own. I have two of my friends (used to go to school with them and see them on social media) who own their own businesses and I've seen some of their work, and it looks impressive. I have never seen them discuss pricing and I can only assume it must be expensive.

I don't really need an interior designer - I imagine they (or someone like them) could help with color schematics, etc., but I am trying to keep it as simple as I can to cover what I want.

If you have a little tape measure, drill (or screwdriver) and some know-how, there is no advantage to them unless you want some fancy expensive stuff. If you just need some regular blinds, you should be able to do it yourself for a lot less.

I have all this, and I'm YouTube proficient as well.

As bad as YT can be some times, there are some very good people who post "how-to's" and I follow right along on some things that I used to lack confidence in.

Probably want 4 blackout shades, and I haven't figured out what I would like for the corner kitchen window yet.

That's a lot quicker than I would have thought (excluding COVID).

I did select blinds and followed the measurement instructions and they came and fit perfectly. I have four 6ft windows done in about 20 mins. Would recommend.

Almost all of my windows have blinds from blinds.com. They make is very easy with plenty of info and easy instructions. When I needed replacement parts, they sent them free. I'm a huge fan.

I bought the Levolor faux wood ones from lowe’s online for seven 6 foot windows. Saved a significant amount but you have to know how to measure

Bought $2800. in blinds in 2018 when we moved into a new home. $4800 4 years later when we moved again. Blinds Galore was better on quality and price each time.

Huge fan of measure, order and install yourself.

Right now americanblinds.com is having a 50% off sale through 5/31
I’ve ordered from them before and was completely satisfied. I ordered for my upstairs rooms yesterday - 6 blinds 2” faux wood for $399 including tax. No charge for shipping.

Purchased 3 from blinds dot com and called them for info on 1 blind. Customer service was excellent pointing out an alternative without any hard sell. Purchased before covid and the price was probably much lower then.
