A servicemember who chooses to retire with 15 years of service will receive a little more than 35 percent of his or her basic pay over the lifetime of their retirement. This is about 14 percent less than those who get the 50 percent for serving the full 20 years.
Same for civilian social security, you quit early you get less. Dude is a pussy.(in this instance only).

This doesn't seem like it should surprise the retiree, isn't that pretty standard practice?

Yeah, that's why I was asking what the benefits are. Seems like you'd know what you are getting when you quit, at least as far as retirement is concerned. I don't know how you could get mad about that. I could see being pissed about VA healthcare since that has been shown to be a shite show. Major props to this guy for doing a bunch of shite that I wouldn't or couldn't do, but it seems odd he's going public based on something he knew when he signed on the signature line.

Genius. Now he will be a marked man.

Some things just should not be leaked.

We don't even know for sure that it was him. The government ain't gonna confirm it

If he was there, and he says he did it, then he did it. I'm 100 percent sure that if he lied about it, he'd be called on it.

Didn't a couple of SEALs already come out and discuss the whole thing, they had a reenactment on CNN or whatever. Maybe I'm dreaming

It has never been clear who actually killed him...IMHO, they all took a shot

In the days after the repubs took control...idk. Seems like a chess game. No way this guy came forward on his own.

Can someone who knows about military benefits fill me in on what he would miss out on by only going 16 years rather than 20 years?

$2-$4k a month in cash benefits.

I have no problem with him coming forward. He's a hero albeit maybe not a smart one to retire early and lose most of his benefits and then complain about it.

I think they should split the $25M with the whole team.

I think he's part of a PR chess game. We will see what he has to say during the interview.

This is the guy who was identified as "Shooter" or "The Shooter" in a magazine article about 8 or 10 months ago. I think it was in Esquire, but I'm not positive. There was a big thread about it on TD.

The tone of the article was generally critical of the Navy. This wonderful guy was being forced out of the service with no health benefits after 16 years of service. It smelled of hyperbole, if not outright bullshite. That being said, I'll watch the interview.

I get what you are saying, it truly was a community effort. O'Neill just happened to be the penultimate piece of the operation.
