I am curious how we are supposed to acknowledge cars. A cyclist with a decent amount of miles on their legs knows the car is there. I hold my line, don't do anything unexpected and the car will pass me.

Agree with your entire post. If cyclists and motorists both follow the rules like they should, everything is fine. Critical mass is full of retarded dirty hippies and I wouldn't want to be associated with them.
