Generac
There is a reason my generator-dependent industry calls them "Gener-crap".
Stay very far away.

I got it used so no manual, but I've found some info online. It looks like I need 3k at least. I'll end up paying as much for the generator as I did for the pop up

When we had our pop up, we'd just turn of the A/C for a minute if we had to use the microwave. It's usually not that big a deal.
We spent very little time in it during the day so only really ran the AC or generator at night.
We had a fridge in it but never used it. It was so small it wasn't worth it and always just used and ice chest or chests.

That's what we need it for. Our property has no electricity plug ins. We will only need to run the ac at night. At camp grounds we will not need a generator at all. It's a Coleman Mach and most forums say we need at least a 3k

I have the Honda EU 2000i and the Honda EU 2000i Companion. Paralleled I can run the lights, a/c, and fridge with no worries.
Jj283 made some good points, though. When we don't need our fridge we use ice chests. We'll shut down the a/c to use the microwave. Most of the time we're not in it.
I use my camper and those generators for tailgating, camping, Mardi Grad, just about whatever excuse I can.
2k is probably enough for what you're wanting. It's an investment. If you need to up the power, you can always get the companion.
When we first bought ours we tested them out and figured out what we could run and not until we got it right. I am extremely happy with mine.

How's long can I expect this investment to last if cared for properly?

I've had mine for 2.5 years. No issues.
Change the oil every 25 running hours. I change mine usually after each football season or long camping trip, usually twice a year total.
Don't let gas set in it. If you fill them up but don't run all that gas out, dump it or use Sta-Bil.
Maintenance is extremely simple and the user manual breaks it all down for you.
Edit:
I didn't know jack about generators or campers until I bought 2.5 years ago. I learned from a lot research and trail and error. Figuring out loads is very simple by knowing what your appliances need to start (starting watts) then what they need to run (running watts).

I have this one and it's hard to beat for price
350. Starts on first pull every time and seems as quiet as the Honda

The Yamaha variants can be found cheaper online than the Honda in my experience.
Both manufacturers also make a 1000w unit depending on what you want to run that are cheaper and even more quiet.

That sounds like a pretty short oil lifespan. What about a long term power outage? How long can you run them continuously? 2-3 days?

And every time you walk by it start it. I have quite a few from the 2000 Honda to an 80kw with a whisper quiet John Deere diesel and I start all of them weekly and let run for 10-15 minutes. I ran that big diesel today just to move the fluids. It makes them last.
I know a hundred people with a nice generator sitting in their garage that will not run because the ethanol has been sitting in them

I think you mean every 250 running hours
Posted on 3/8/17 at 9:00 pm to Scooba
I'd have to pull the manual to see what the exact timeframe is but I do that because as I said before, they're an investment and I don't have $2k laying around to waste so I try to take extra care of them.
I have run mine continuously for 7 days with no issue.
After that, I'd definitely do an oil change, though.

Yeah, you can do that or once a year.
I do mine every 3 months or 25 hours, not 50.

I have a Yamaha. It's just as quiet as the Honda one imo and haven't had any issues.

I ran two Honda EU 2000s around the clock for 16 days, shut down only to add gas and do a oil change. Also know a contractor that has run a Eu2000 for 8-10 hours a day for many years.

We have several MAG hands that use to run Honda and now run Generacs.
Posted on 3/8/17 at 9:44 pm to Woobie
That's the Mach 3 ps which is used less power than the regular. I need to get the cover off and look on the unit itself for the wattage.
