World would be better off if kids didn't get phones until they were old enough to get a job and pay for it themselves.

Well I mean you could talk to the principal about that, but that requires taking an active interest in your child's schooling.

Those posting it isn't required in school these days obviously don't have a middle - high school aged child living with them.

Teachers basically across the board are using mobile apps, that AREN'T also available on school issued Chromebooks/laptops for use of in-classroom learning that goes towards participation points/grades.

Talk all the smack you want about the pressure of your kid(s)/you trying to "Keep up w/ the Joneses" but it's a massive stressor. It's no longer as simple as "man up & don't give in".

My 13 year old has proven she cannot be trusted independently with her phone.

Not trying to be an arse, but I think most people could have seen this coming. Controls should be on kids phones from the beginning (if they even have phones to begin with that early?!)

I feel for you. If they made a rotary dial cell phone with no screen, that’s what my kids would have.

No it isn't. They have laptops that has everything they need. If she needs an alarm for the morning get her an alarm clock. Put parental controls on what apps she can download and put a parental code in the phone that you have to put in when she wants to download something. Turn off her screen time every night. Make her put her phoen in your room every night.

If you are going to take her phone away then let her text her friends saying she wont have it so don't get upset when she doesn't text back.

Stumbled onto a deal with iMessage when I set up my kid's iPhone. Actually set it up as a backup for myself first then ultimately gave it to him. Anyway, because I used the same iCloud credentials, I get a copy of any texts he sends/receives on my own phone.

That, and the YouTube account he uses is logged in using my credentials, so I can see a history of what he searches for. Actually caught a couple early morning searches for variations of "naked" and "female." He's 15, so that's kind of expected, but it was a good reminder to have a discussion with him. It was also nice that I could deal with it without the drama of having Mom involved.

No it isn't. If it is essential for school, then you could just have all her school shite sent to your phone.
