I've resisted, but going to buy my 6yo a game console. I'm an old guy that's never been into gaming. Any ideas on what I should get him?

A Nintendo Switch if you can find one. It's simultaneously a home and portable console. It's got Zelda and Mariokart now, but soon ARMS and Splatoon will be out as well.

IPAD. All my nieces and nephews are addicted to this shite. Can download games on App Store (some for free).

Xbox. Specifically made for children. All their games go pew-pew-pew and only require mindless button mashing.

Get a Wii U from Nintendo. Relatively cheap and plenty of games suitable for a six year old including the new Zelda game. Do NOT get the new console, Nintendo Switch. A 6 yr old would easily break it since it's a hybrid console/portable system. A child drops it and you're out a few hundred bucks...plus they're not easy to find.

While I really like this answer I think the Wii U would be best. Op probably already has a gun for his kid anyway. I mean his name is infidel.

All he wants to do is be outside. He has an iPad and the only time he turns it on is to watch videos right before bed. That's only reason I considered buying him one. This kids in zero danger of being a video zombie. He asks for one sometimes when he comes back from cousins house though. On second thought, maybe we'll skip it for now.....

sounds like you've got a normal kid. dont ruin him with video games, especially if he's not even asking for it.

i agree there is some truth to this, but the parents have to be responsible enough to limit video game usage. you dont have to put a limit on outside time.

secondly, the problem now is that kids are taking their electronic devices with them during "outside time." so basically now playing outside means being under a tree playing on an ipad.
